Wen-Mac P-38 Lightning (Vintage Control Line)
Hello all! I recently came across one of these planes at a garage sale. It has been run but is in very good condition, it even has the box. I want to keep it for display but I was just curious, how much is this plane worth? I cant find anything similar on eBay but I did read somewhere on the internet that it is very hard to find. I would also like to replace a few parts that are weary from storage, anyone know where I could get NOS parts? Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance,
-Nathan

Well a NIB example got almost $2k for it. Even used they command some serious money. That is as long as it isn't a pile of poop. You just might be better off selling this and getting something else to play with. One cavat, don't clean it up before you sell it. Done improperly it can be damaging to the finish and value of the piece. Collectors know all about restoring it and it's better left to them.

Check out the "New Kit Collectors Price Guide" at this link:
http://members.aol.com/skylane42a/price.html
The gentleman this belongs to seems to update it often, and it seems to be a pretty good guide. It appears you may have gotten a real "find". According to the guide, the Wen-Mac P-38 has fetched between $385 and $2600.
His description for condition for a plastic ready-to-fly model states, "In the case of a Ready to Fly Control Line plane.. the plane is 90% complete, meaning all but a minor part like an antenna are present and intact.. There are only few cosmetic blemishes. Plane is very clean and airworthy. Does not include value for box or documentation!"
Congratulations on you good fortune, airplaneman1!
