Sounds like a great idea. But......should I post pics of mine in its "completed" state, or its "finished" state?

BTW, we're about to pass Sepulveda Basin in ## of posts, pages, etc. A dubious honor, I know.
There you go Ken. Here's your next WACO.

John, or anyone,
What is the correct stitch spacing for the rib stitching in quarter scale? Also, for 1/5 and 1/6 scale. And would the space be the same on the tail surfaces?
Thanks !!

Check here: http://home.cablerocket.com/~scaleribstitch/id16.htm As far as the stitching on the stab etc. It looks so close to me that I didn't worry about it. But I'm sure someone here will have the exact dimensions!

Scott,
I used 1/2" spaceing on all my rib stitches. John told me they were 2" spaceing on the full scale.

I talked to Gary at getstencels and ordered my pinking tape. You don’t run in to guys like him to often he’s sending out the product before being paid. He just said send me a check when you receive the order. He’s the kind of person you like doing business with.

Jim,

Thanks for the info on how you did your front cockpit I’ll give it a try sounds easy enough.

Hey guys the stitching inside the prop wash is smaller then elsewhere. I believe Stickbuilder could give us the exact spacing.

Hello Stickbuilder are you out there?????????????????

You've got that right, the 1st time I ordered stencils from Gary i ordered enough for 2 planes and he did the same thing, dropped them in the mail and enclosed a packing list which said pay when you can. He did excellent stencil work at a great price, hate to see he got out of the business.

Terry,

I'm doing mine set up on 7/16" spacing. That is fractionally a little too wide, but it's about as close as I am willing to fight for. Remember, once again, we are trying for an illusion, and if you get too crazy with the detail and it shows up too much, the model will look worse than it would without the detail.

Remember the 10-50' rule. If you can't see the detail on the full scale at 50', then you should not be able to see it on the fifth scale model at 10'. Try for the amount of detail that looks right. If the detail is too garish, then it's probably wrong.

TR, et al

Rib lace spacing within the prop wash is generally reduced by 30% up to 175 mph aircraft velocity. From there to 250 mph the spacing differential is linearly reduced. I have attached a file showing the FAA AC 43.13 chart.

Having said that, Bill is right about getting too anal. Good luck

Hi Guys,
Thought I would post some pics of my 1/4 scale, I have all the painting completed. All the paint is Krylon, gloss white and gloss true blue. The blue is trimmed out with 1/16" black automotive trim tape. I still need to add the aileron connecting rod and the rudder trim tab, I also need to built the tail brace wires and flying wires. I see the end in site

Anthony,

I'd have to agree that is a very nice looking Waco, now all we need is maiden voyage video footage.

Thanks Guys,
I am attaching some pics of the strut attachment, Ken(Big_Bird) supplied me with the drawings to make the attachment points. The Waco will not spread it's wings until spring. I want my dad to get a chance to see it this Thanksgiving, I don't want to chance it not living that long

I am trying to add alot of detail and yet not make it overpowering, please let me know how well you think the details are coming through, too bold, too subtle or just right. Don't worry about hurt feelings that's the only way to know if I am getting it right or missing the boat.
I am going to be building a 33% Waco from AMRC(formerly Genesis) with the intent of entering it in scale competition. IF all goes well the build will start early October.
Later!!

Thanks Dan,
This Waco has been a labor of love that is for sure, I am betting the 33% will build in a fraction of the time it took to build the Pepino Waco.
If anyone ever wants an excercise in frustration let me know and I will send you my plans

I gaurantee you cannot build this plane cheaper than you can buy the Barth 25%, live and learn.

Anthony,

I think you nailed the detailing. I'm sure that you have seen models that had the detailing so predominant that it absolutely overpowered the model. Yours is @1/4 scale, while most of ours are @1/5th. If you look closely at yours while standing at a distance of 12.5 feet, you should see exactly what you would see on the full scale at 50 feet. Your plane appears to meet that criteria. There is enough detail to make the plane interesting, but not so much that it screams at you. I think that you have done a great job on the Pepino plan build. And I commend you for correcting the obvious flaws that the plan shows. Great job. (I really like your fittings)

I may have a source for the reproduction transfers for the fifth scale. I should be getting my set in the next few days. I ordered mine in black with gold edging. I'll post pictures as soon as I receive them. These are the same size as the original decals that used to come with the Pica kits. They will be available in any (most any) color combination.

Anthony, you sure HAVE NOT missed the boat on the details. I think the picture that shows it best is the closeup with the rear windscreen in place. If not for the unfinished cockpit, you'd be hard pressed to tell that picture from a full scale shot. Truly a beautiful bird. The 1/3 scale should be breathtaking.
