Bill, What kind of muffler did you get? I still need to get one. The stock muffler would work but I don't like were you have to cut the cowl.

Dan

I would like to see your muffler set up if you have any pics.
Thanks

I found it here in the classified area. It does not have a name stamped on the surface. It is an oval muffler, and has one outlet pipe. I'll try to post a picture tonight.

Hello everyone;

I can see more and more poeple enjoy building and flying those Waco's, since 2008 we sold 60% more 33% Waco kits than 2007, the 40% kits a little bit more.

We will work on a smaller Waco kit next year.

All suggestions are welcome

Fred,

If you mean the G-26EI, then I am using a 16 oz tank. I enlarged the tank box in mine, and turned it into a tail loader. If you are still using the stock tank box, then the Sullivan Slant tank will do very well. You will get tired of flying it before you run out of gas. The Sullivan slant # that works best is the SS-16 Seamless tank. Odly enough it says all that on one side, and DuBro on the other. Next, you should consider becoming a Brotherhood member.

Michel,
Alot of people like the 25% size but are very limited to what is available, if you can beat the Barth price you will have a winner
The only other option available is the Pepino Plans and that is an exercise in frustration, I would dig out my eyes before building that thing again!!!

Michel,

How about something in the 90" span size? This size is much easier to transport than is the 33% size, and let's not even talk about the 40% size. Something along the 25% or 27% would also utilize a less expensive engine, so I personally think that you would sell more of them. I'll take the first one. How's that for committment?

Hello Bill,

In the beginning of this new venture, i was thinking big and bigger, my float is almost complete.....for now on, i start downsize the kits..........the Waco's are the best seller's, 25% scale will be a good choice, less expensive to. In our team , two very good designer on 3d programs, nothing is impossible ......

For January 2009 another Cub .....another way of doing it........

As soon i got pictures of the smallest Waco kit, i will came back with pictures.....

Tanks

While we are on the subject of engine installations, Zenoah has a G 20 EI. 1.7 HP at 8500 RPM. Any thoughs on it.
Should be a hair smaller than the G26.

Angel,

I don't have any experiance with the G20 but I understand that, while it will fly a light weight Pica Waco, it is on the marginal side and the G26 has just that much more power and many feel it is "just right" for the Pica Waco. Ken Hodges (khodges) put one in his Cox/Pica un-AFR-ed YMF and said the G26 was about perfect. See posts 2828 (Ken) and 3852 (Bill).

Michel,

While I prefer the smaller 1/6 or 1/5 size due to space and $$ limitations, top candidates in 1/4 scale open cock pit would be the UPF (lots built and many color schemes to do), ATO (Taperwing, semi symmetrical airfoil, aerobatic, could be a CTO), CSO (Straight wing, under cambered airfoil), Model 10/GXE, also under cambered with the OX5 engine (and alternate radial engine), RNF (can be modified as an INF). Two favorites of mine are the UBF-2 and QCF-2, fore runners of the YMF. In cabin the A/SRE, YKS or YKC. If you want a real challenge try the UEC and try to get the rear windows correct. Biggest problem with some of the above choices is having so much more of the radial engine exposed with either no cowl or just a Ring or Speed cowl.

P1 - UPF-7 (Waco Joe's, thats him in the rear cockpit)
P2 - ATO
P3 - CSO
P4 - GXE with OX 5 engine
P5 - GXE with radial engine
P6 - RNF
P7 - UBF-2
P8 - QCF-2
P9 - SRE
P10 - YKS
P11 - YKC
P12 - UEC

Check the lastest page that ends with "0" (zero) and check the roster. The most current roster is on page 290 and that is where I found you listed. Bill tries to upload the roster every ten pages.

John,

Did the YMF ever have a ring/speed cowl? I'm fortunate enough to have a radiial and minimal cowling provides much better cooling.

ATO (Taperwing, semi symmetrical airfoil...
Just a minor correction, (yeah, I know I'm a nit-picker ) the Taperwing Wacos used a NACA M-6 airfoil, which is not really semi-symmetrical. It's very flat bottomed, with a slight "kick up" at the trailing edge. This is the same airfoil used on the original single place Pitts Specials (called the "flat wing" Pitts, as opposed to the later symmetrical airfoil "round wing" Pitts). It's also used on the Acro Sport homebuilt biplanes, as well as many other types.

The use of the M-6 airfoil was a big deal in the era of the Taperwing Wacos, because all the other designs at the time were using the earlier "under-cambered" airfoils like the Aeromarine series and the Travel Air airfoils. Waco used the M-6 on the Taperwings, and the M-18 on the RNF. These were the first moves away from the under-cambered airfoils. Waco then settled on the Clark Y (a very flat bottom airfoil) for most of the rest of their designs.

Cheers!

Joe

Bob,

Check the National Waco Club F3/F5 album http://www.nationalwacoclub.com/f3f5album/ . The album shows a 1934 UMF, NC 14085, without a cowl on page 1. On page 2 and 3 there are a couple of smoth cowled U/YMFs (including the Cuban UMFs, Silver with Berry Red Cowls).

There is at least 1 UMF replica that was built in 1999, NC 2021N, that does have a Ring cowl (see picture from Airliners).

To my knowledge there were no Ring cowled YMFs from the factory. Since the UMF and the YMF are basically the same with different engines, go for it. It is nice to have variations other than the paint job.

If you baffle the air entering the cowl so that it is forced thru the fins on the cylinders, you can get better cooling than an uncowled setup which is one of the reasons full scale went to a cowl (speed and appearance are other reasons).

Of Interest to all:

I just talked with Jay (damifino) and we are going to produce another run of the Waco Brotherhood (Phoenix Project) T Shirts. This will be the 2nd production run of them. The only difference will be in the color of the shirt material. These will be either white, light blue or maroon (dark red)(we have not decided yet). We are doing our best to hold the price to last year's prices, but may have to increase it a little due to the increase in postage. These will be available from size small through 3X. If you remember there was a surcharge for shirts larger than XL since they charge us more for the shirt. There will be 144 shirts made on this run, and everyone will know that they are 2nd issue. Next year, the color will change again for the 3rd edition. PM me if you want one or more of these. We are thinking that it will take about 45 days to get them done and begin shipping them. This is not a profit making venture, just trying to get everyone one (or more) who want them. Last year's run sold out quickly, so let me know who you are (with address) how many you want, and the sizes that you need.

[8D]Just to try and help to refresh it into everybodies mind about the "T" shirt offer that has been put out on the table months ago it almost appears that it is a dying interest! Since I wasn't around for the first run of "T" shirts I would surely like to be apart of the second run, but if memory sevres me right that last update that Stickbuilder (Bill) posted we are only up to 60 shirts, very far from the 144 required to get everybody a price break. I personally don't know how everybody else feels about it, but I look at it if it is worth the time and effort to build a plane and fly it, and to be apart of something like the Brotherhood wouldn't it be worth a few dollars to sport a "T" shirt that shows off what you enjoy doing on your off time, Plus it does help on the public awareness for the hobby in its self. I know that since I became a member of the brotherhood the numbers have jumped immensely, and I don't know how many of the new brothers have been made aware of the "T" shirt offer. So I am using this post to hopefully to refresh it into everybodies mind and give the new brothers a chance to jump in.
Cheers

it is not only the prize but also quality which counts. Our 3D designed kits make the parts fit which builts up the model pretty fast.
