Would anyone rather I went to another forum to talk about the ARE?
Absolutely not. If it's about anything to do with a WACO it belongs here. That, plus you are a member of the Waco Brotherhood. Nowhere does it say that it's only about the UMF/YMF versions. Just wait until I start up on the 27% UPF-7.

RE: WACO YMF
Hi Guys,
Just a heads up...I was on RCU last night and typed in Waco in the buy and sell section and was shocked to see an ad with a picture of my Waco on it!! I posted to his ad saying the picture wasn't the plane for sale and I see this morning he removed the picture. The ad is here : http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=566968. I posted the picture back in 2007 here: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_51...tm.htm#5935087. He used the third picture on post #416.
If anyone was interested in the ad, I'd advise you to hold onto your money as I'm not sure he even has a Waco for sale or if it's a scam!
What do you guys make of this?

Shawn,
He must have something to sell, he's not willing to ship. It probably is painted like yours, or similar to it. He should have asked.
So YOU'RE the guy who beat me to Ken's Waco....

Coming toward you, rightside-up or upside-down, the low wing gets the stick. That's the LAW, and it never changes, EVER.

tmac,
Looking good. Suggestion - Use longer mounting straps in the wing that are about 3/4s the depth of the spar, just a little extra security. P1 is from a 1937 YKS-7 and the straps are in the upper right section of the photo. There are 2 wings, leading edge to leading edge and the straps are black or grey.
P1 - YKS-7 wing section.

tmac48 - Struts are looking good. Presume from your comments that these are mock-ups and you will make operating ones from streamlined aluminum using the fittings shown here. Good stuff!
skylarkmk1 - these are some photos you posted "way back when!" showing the Grimes Retractable landing lights. Unfortunately, as you know, the Waco ARE has these and I am thinking of adding them to my model. Problem is actuating them. Do you have any info on how the full scale ones operate? I can get some really small servos used in indoor electric stuff to actuate them. I have a few thoughts but it would be interesting to see how the big ones do it!!
I see the restored version at the EAA doesn't have the "passing light" so I may not include it in the model. I'm trying to stay away from "over detail scaling", but maybe not succeeding!

Jim,
The lights are driven by a worm gear inside the wing causing the section of gear holding the light housing to extend or retract. The pivot point is inside the trim ring and a bit above the skin. There is an adjustment screw inside the main housing to adjust the degree of pivot.
The offset hinges used for bomb bay door could work; I would use a pair back to back for stability when extended. Suggest mounting the lights assembly like an aileron servo on a plywood plate for access and ease of construction. There are 2, one in each wing. Make sure the servos have enough power to hold the lights open in flight.
P1 – Close up of the light with the approximate pivot point.
P2 – Adjustment screw (next to the label with directions)
P3 – Label
P4 – Offset hinges

Jim,
There are some nylon offset hinges available with a tab for the servo to actuate. I'm using a Grimes light on my current waco. The offset hinge is perfect along with a micro servo to actuate the light swing.

RE: WACO YMF
WHOA guys!! Thanks for the info, but you're making me feel awfully dumb!
- John, thanks for that info
- WacoNut, I have been to that site and I went again on your advise, but I just don't understand all the tech stuff. It seems there are a dozen white LEDs and I haven't a clue which one to select. I also need to find the proper housing for it. Think I'll take a look at the train supply section at my LHS where they may have such a beast.
- Stickbuilder, Thanks for the info but what make is that hinge? It sounds like the real deal but what is it listed as and is it a hobby item or did it come from some other source?
- RCplanman, Found the R. Boyne thread on the Ziroli Staggerwing on RC Scale Builder and it has a ton of info with pix. However except for Radio Shack, no source is mentioned for the lamps. Radio Shack is defunct in Canada so I'll have to do a search. But I like his second idea for the retracting lamps. I'll probably run the landing lights off a flap microswitch as I do on my Super Cub and put the running lights on an empty channel or a switch in the cockpit which I'll turn on before take-off, if a spare channel isn't available.
I'll let you know what I come up with! Thanks again!!

Hello,
I wish to ask help.... At the moment I wish to start to do new model WACO in scale 1:2. For work to me good drawings of a fuselage so-as I plan to make it of steel tubes, as well as at the original are required. Someone has drawings of this design??

Jim,
Your Local Radio Shack will also have a selection of LED's and the resistors that you will need to wire in with them. You can get a better Idea of the size by looking at them 1st hand. Well scratch that as I just read your reply above and see you do not have a radio shack available. I suggest you ask around for someone who has used LED's for landing lights. I purchased some recommended lights for Nav lights and have no idea which ones would be best for landing lights.
Later!!
Anthony

It's either DuBro, Rocket City or Sullivan. It's the offset hinge in nylon with the actuator bar. It was intended for landing gear doors.

Dan,
You do not need these items on your own post as you are not going to e-mail, PM, add yourself to your address book or block yourself. I don't have any of those items either on my posts, they are on eveybody elses including yours.

Jim,
You might want to try The Source (thesource.ca), they bought out Radio Shack and the store in my area seems to carry most of the same things that Radio Shack did. On the website they list three stores in St Catherines, there is one in the Fairview Mall which is likely the closest to you.

They may have, but I don't know. I think Rocket City is long out of business but a lot of their stuff is still floating around. If you see a product of their's you like, I'd buy it up as once it's gone - it's gone!!

Once and again, I will help you with your drawings, but only after the new kits are on the market. I promised Michele that I would hold them until he has the new Waco UPF-7 and the YMF completed. That is when I will make the drawings available.
