The poeple who would know for sure is Waco Classic Aircraft http://www.wacoclassic.com/ . Contact them to find out for sure if the total area and shape was changed other than for the balance.
According to the info I have, it looks like when they changed the rudder in 1992 with Ser # F5C040 they also lengthened (by 6" - 1.2 " in 1/5th Scale) and widened (by 2.5 - .50" in 1/5th Scale) the fuslage and enlarged the front and rear wind shields.
So do your research and note the differences between any drawings you have and the subject aircraft, especially with WCA ser #s F5C040 and above.

The 1/8" balsa stock should do just fine. I'd recommend going over to Orlando on North OBT and getting your wood there. Bill has a great selection of 1/8" stock, and your model should come in a little lighter. I would hesitate to recommend cutting all the lightening holes in everything with the 8th inch stuff. I'd still do it on the plywood parts.

Heck, while you are over there get some 1/4 grain 1/16" and use that for your ribs, other than keeping the covering from touching top and bottom they really don't do anything else...

Hi everyone
Just wanted to let you know I bought the GP Waco. If you had talked to me 20 years ago, I would not have even thought about owning a biplane. With this airplane I now own 5 of them. I'm primarily a warbird guy but am really starting to enjoy the relaxed flying of the bi-plane. I know the GP Waco is an ARF and not as prestigious as a kit built, but I would still like to be part of the brotherhood.

makes things easier to have only one mould and it simulates perfect the way the oleo does during loading and unloading. The three gliding path on each side of the part are the leading and gliding areas of the gear suspension. For that reason it makes sence to push the cut off part a little into the main part to simulate that.

You are speaking of phenolic guiding tubes that's what I have a problem with. We always did provide glass fiber tubes as a guidence only the lates version has phenolic guiding tubes and yellow elox. aluminium tubes to fit in.

Understood about the tubes. My use of the term "phenolic" may not have been accurate. The fact is Ican't tell with certainty what material was used in the wing panels and center section for the tubes. It does look like fiberglass as Ican see some weave in the tube materialbut not sure.
Iwas able to find some aluminum tubing in metric sizes on the web and have ordered some in both 20mm &12mm O.D. sizes. Once those arrive Iwill try them out for fitment and if they don't work .....well not exctaly sure what we will do but we will figure something out.

Welcome to the Brotherhood Paul keep us posted on your GP Waco.
I finished the wing spars. Having a nice table saw sure comes in handy. I picked up a piece of spruce from Lowe’s and had them cut in no time. I did have to go to the LHS and pick up a piece of 1/8 birch plywood for the spar braces running the plywood out three ribs past the center section makes them vary strong. Next I will cut the wing ribs.
