Well, you know, uh, things get shuffled around sometimes!! I've got room for multiple projects, just not enough time!! That 'Hog Fokker' will fly someday.

There are about 32 members of the Brotherhood. I have decided to make a set for each member, and have a few extra on hand for newcomers. I will need you guys to pm me with your mailing addresses. Some I already have. If you have pm'd me with your address previously, I still have it.

Master Chief, I sent you my address. That's a very generous offer. I've been nickel-and-diming the last few days, haven't made much progress, but here is a pic of the semi-complete wing strut. All I have left is to put a couple coats of finishing resin, fine sand, and paint. I used 3/16 balsa strips to airfoil the carbon rod. Amazingly, they're only a few grams heavier than the "stock" ones that came with the ARF. I also have the cabanes done, but not yet airfoiled.

Okay troops...Here we go with the first pieces of the next one stuck together. I am including pictures of the modified H-Stab. I am using 7/32 brass tubing to make the mount tubes. The first photo shows the pivot tube in front of the aft tie tube. This pivot tube will have a flat brass plate soldered to it, and will be bolted into position with 2 bolts, and locknuts. It will not be readily accessible after the model is covered. The forward tube will have a nut plate soldered to it, and a lock nut soldered to the plate. The adjusting screw will be fastened to F-13B and I will be able to adjust the incidence as needed for trimming the model. I even thought about using a bellcrank and some clevis' and using a servo to make the incidence adjustable in the air. I may still do this, but it is probably overkill. Photo #2 shows the pivot tube on the mount tube. The pivot tube is 1/4". The mount tube is 7/32" the fit is very stable. I would call it a slip-fit.

Will the two piece H-stab be assembled through the covered fuselage, tube epoxied, then the stab covered in place? Just curious...
The picture is just how I had it in my mind. Been thinking you could use a pulley arrangement for in-flight trim adjustment. Like the trim indicator pulley/cable setup on a Cub except the front end of the thing would have a servo with a larger pulley than the pulley on the screw at the stab.
Of coarse, you'd need very coarse threads. www.smallparts.com may have something.

This is the page you need to see- miniature lead screws and anti-backlash nuts.

I'll draw a diagram of the bellcrank servo system tomorrow, and post it. You can use your flap dial knob to set the incidence in flight. I will only make the incidence adjustable about 4 degrees (+-) That should give me plenty of adjustment. They are proud of the anti-backlash nuts are they not?

The stab will be completed, covered and then installed. The fuse will be covered all but the v-stab fairing when the h-stab goes on. I will probably use a hidden control horn for the elevator. I even thought about using pull-pull on the elevator, and may do it yet. I did it on the Super Ace, and swore never again, but we all know how that works.

I got to thinking about the elevator control overnight, and I amm pretty sure that I am just going to go with the concealed control horn. I remember what a Royal Pain in the *** that the Corben was to set up, and although it works well, I don't think that this is where I want to go with this one. If I do decide to go with the Pull-Pull elevators, I may even do the Ailerons as well. That's the problem when you start to scale a model out. Where do you stop? I worked on the throttlle quadrant some last night, and have it about 90% completed. The throttle/carb heat controls are in and look awful scale like. (I'm getting to where I hate those little bitty parts) Thank goodness for my building light with the magnafying glass built in. Getting old sucks.

Stickbuilder,
I'm using a pull-pull on my J-3/L-4 ailerons for scale effect. The sevo will be mounted in the wing in a standard horizontal fashion. Then I'll just use pull-pull. It's a pretty simple setup in that big cub wing. May be a little tight in the waco wing but should work. The cub ailerons are bottom hinged to make this easier. I havent looked at this in the waco plans, where are they hinged.

Edwin,

Most people bevel the Aileron and hinge it in the middle. Scale would be hinged at the top (barn door fashion) and that is the way mine is going. I have already seen that there is adequate room to mount the servo on its side. It will have to go right up against the forward sub spars to do it.

I got in the shop tonight and was on the phone with damifino, and the next thing I knew we had talked our way through building the actuator for the incidence linkage. There will be a dedicated servo that drives the link, and will be controlled with the flap channel, and use the rotary knob. The end points on the servo will be limited, since I will only need about 4 degrees of total movement. (six at the outside) Here is the setup, made from F-13B and some 1/8" ply and a 90 degree bellcrank. Dirt simple.

Got all the H-stab sheeting cut tonight. Will do the stab and elevator ribs next. The plans do not show a profile for the L.E. of the H-stab. How does that work when covering? Maybe I missed it.

STICKBUILDER- Thinking about machining a delrin pivot bracket with integrated mounting flange for the stabilizer. Done right it will have zero slop. I'll make two (or more) if you send a sketch... At this rate will soon be ready for those parts sheets!

Gonna laminate three 1/8 X 3/8 to one 3/8 X 1/16 for each side of the crutch. Plans call for 7/16 X 5/16. I'll sand or rip a 1/16th off the 3/8 side after gluing them up.

BVW (Brotherhood Virtual WACO) Update

I've been rescaling Stickbuilder's scans to get them to jive with my plans (and with rational measurements). Things are fitting together OK. Obviously, some adjustments will have to be made as more parts are assembled.

Bill,
Please add me to the WACO brotherhood. I have both the 1/6 scale arf, in the process of finishing. And the 1/5 scale kit built in the 80's.
The 1/5 has a OS 120 4 stroke, the 1/6, a OS .91 2 stroke.
Thanks,
Bob Q.

Bill;
Since I have the Waco arf finished, I have all the pressure off so I can go fly the Waco and now I can start the kit version and get back into the build business. Also, I am seriously thinking about getting another OS 160 to put on my GP Super Stearman. The Stearman is a couple of pounds heavier,so I am going to see how it handles the Waco before I make my final decision. I hope to do an engine test and break-in this week-end if the weather will hold like thay forecast.
