Yes dan. That's where I started. I looked under " struts, wings and cabanes. " but didn't find anything about it. Mostly info for the Barth.i pretty much shut the lights off in the shop and took up residency at the PC. I started at the beginning and am now at page 35. I must admit I'm not reading word for word, but I'm reading all of bills posts as well as a few others, and when it gets to the good stuff, I'm taking notes and keeping track of post #. I don't see getting back to work anytime soon as I don't want to mess this one up. It stinks to have a set of plans and a manual that you can't really just build off of, but should be WELL worth it in the end when I have a much more scale model of a BEAUTIFUL WACO. Thanks for all the help so far. Steve. Now, back to reading...

Steve,
Start reading on page 324 and you will see how Bill made his Cabane Struts adjustable.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU Dan, that will be Hugh in aiding me to at least back track, figure out what needs to be changed, and at least get back to square one. I'm still going to flip through most of the thread though. I'm just now getting to where bill starts his first complete build, so I am reading a little more closely. I want to build mine as close to what we already know works well and looks great to boot.thanks again, Steve.

If any ones interested there's a 1/3 scale Barth for sale on RCU. I gave it some thought then came back to earth.

Looking at parts, it's a newer version than the one I'm building. Looks like a good price.

Did some serious searching and found them. The adjustable Cabane strut build starts on page 324 and ends on page 325.

Ok guys, thanks a bunch for taking the time to help me. Thanks especially to you master chief for making a great airframe even that much better. I've got about 20 hours now invested in reading through the past eight years of posts and I'm only up to page 157, but i feel as it's time well spent,( although, my eyes are starting to melt and I miss breathing in the balsa dust.) . I've come to a few conclusions thus far. I will be powering the Waco with a Gemini 160 twin, I don't think I will try the adjustable stab as it's probably a bit past my pay grade, I will however, go with the adjustable cabane and inter planes, if believe I will try the s**** poly and auto paint although I'm not yet decided on a paint scheme. As for the rest, I still have a lot of reading to do and will probably change mi mind a few dozen times before I actually make up my mind. P.S. Bill, as a marine Sargent, I would like to personally thank you and the rest of the nave squids for always, and I mean ALWAYS getting us where we needed to get. Lol. And thank you for your service. I know I don't hear that enough( except for Veterans Day). Steve.

No arguments here. The time of my life was spent at N.A.S Pensicola. No where else will you find navy, marines, and air farce all in one spot.( at least not that I know of.)

a close friend of mine owns a t-shirt printing shop. I could find out prices if you like. He's given me good deals in the past for bunches of shirts. Let me know. I'd be happy to help. Steve.

Please do. We can get stencils from Mitch. It is a thankless task, and can be a financial failure. I'd recommend receiving payment prior to shipment.

I would need to find out a ball park number on how many first so we could get a price, we would have to set a date that your order would have to be in by, and you would have to have a bank check or money order in by that date to get one ( or ten, if that's what you want.) I've had bad luck with paypal in the past so I'd rather not go that route. The only thing I would have to look at would be shipping. I'm not sure how to do that. It will cost more to ship to Ca. Than it will to Fl. From here. Does any one have any ideas? I've done this before and he's given me good prices, but I didn't have to deal with shipping. I'll see if we can make it work. Also, what would we want them to look like?

Previously they have been tightly packed and placed on a mailing envelope and sent USPS. Same rates everywhere in US. Foreign is more. It has worked well. We will probably need a gross to get reasonable price.

That sounds like it could work. Excuse my ignorance, but how many in a gross? 100?

Barth 1/3 YMF

Anybody out there go with two aileron servos and leave the balance weights off? I'm going that way thinking the servos have good holding power and the ball links on slave rods are slop free, hinges slop free. I would like to know if there have been any bad experiences. I know many go with four aileron servos, but I didn't think it was necessary since this isn't going to be anything but an antique, not like a 3D or 400 MPH dive bomber.

Thanks,

Mike Hopkins

Can I either use two pieces of 1/8 birch ply laminated to 1/4 for F-14B? Or 1/4 light ply?

A gross is 12 dozen or 144. You can laminate the two eighth inch pieces to get the thickness needed.

Went ahead and fabbed a servo tray. The original locations must have been set up for 1/4 scale servos as standards fell through. So far I've fitted a pair of DS821 digitals, which crank out 88 oz/in at my normal 6V. Hopefully this should be enough. Throttle will get a JR mini. Once I do the CofG test I will determine where the radio system will mount.

Since I had no reply with info on replacing the tail pushrods, I went ahead and fed two lengths of Du-Bro Lazer Rods. Most of the fun was patterning bracing and fitting it down into the fuse to prevent bowing the tubes under load. As you can see, there is quite the unsupported length for the elevator, so I inserted an aftermarket rod reversed so only the threaded portion extends beyond the tube, (have to remember to take it all apart and glue everything.. Much shorter rods were fitted into the rudder and both servo ends. There still is a bit of drag, but virtually no slop or deflection under load.

Will have to fit the new horns and fab up the aileron links. At present the arms are set forward to give me some mechanical differential. This has worked perfectly on several other models where I tie both servos to a common channel. Test flying will determine if this is the case here or if I have to split and program each. As a Futaba fan for years, I'm still trying to figure out the programming on my new JR.

Have a different cowl mounting setup and definitely need to do a lot of touch ups.

Thanks. As for this forum thread, I vote to officially name it "Wacopedia" . It really is the Waco encyclopedia.

Tmac,
Your wife is doing a great job on your pilot. I know a couple guys in my club looking for 1/3 scale pilots your wife may be on something here.

Steve, Good luck on the tee shirts you can put me down for three.

As for the t's, I'm still waiting to get a round about ball park number to call for a price. What were the last t shirt runs like? 50? 70? 100? I'm sure that the amount will depict the price.
