RE: WACO YMF
Brothers, I just happened to miss place my revised version ( short with all the mods) of the manual for the 1/5 scale Waco. Moy site not working. Does anybody have the new site. I would like to have a copy. Thanks George
RE: WACO YMF
Hi folks,
I'm just getting ready to split my wheel pants as recommended to reduce the width as recommended. The photo shows a 1/4 inch reduction in width if the blue tape section is removed, or a 3/8 inch reduction if Iremove the section to the outside lines. The current width as received is 2 3/4 inches. The pants as shown on the plan is 2 1/8 inches wide.
Bill, would you like to post your comments on this?
Thanks,
Joe

Chris, yea if you can, my email is [email protected] Thanks George I must be loosing my mind lately, I have lost quite a few things with my model's lately. Or my wife was correct in saying that my hanger is getting too big and disorganized. I don't want to admit it but she's right. It might be time to clean the shop.

Took mine to the Propsnappers club of Portland, Maine open house this past Sunday along with my kit built Great Planes Super Skybolt. It was quite blustery all day so I didn't try to fly it, but it got a lot attention on the flight line. There were many dissappointed people but I felt it was better not to risk landing or taking off when the winds were so strong and would constantly change direction.
Here is a video link showing some of the actvity. I'm not not in any of it other than on the flight line. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gdg7VaNVU8

Removing 1/4 inch will allow your Skylite wheels to fit and the outer wheel pant support as well.
We just got moved into our new home in Florida. I now have a shop with about 4000 sq ft of building space, plus 20 acres to fly in. Color me very happy

Dan,
Come when you can. Bring your working clothes. We gotta get this shop set up. Nearly 100 linear feet of workbenches, saw tables and building tables. I'm thinking a really, really, really big airplane..............[8D]

Robert,
I'm in Sumter County, just off 301. You take 468 toward Leesburg, and then take CR 505 to 23rd Ave. I'm at 4115. Call me at 615-974-3516

RE: WACO YMF
We have friends that live in Wildwood just to the west and visit them during the winter months when they aren't up here in Maine during the summer. I'll keep my ears open next time we visit to see if there are any fly-ins happening.
Color me green too (but a little cooler shade)

RE: WACO YMF
I'm considering using a U-control style control horn on the elevator of my WACO so I can keep it completely internal. I plan to make it using 1/8" piano wire and silver soldering (brazed) the brass horn to it. Can this be done given the properties of brass and the steel wire? I remember the brass I tried to anneal got brittle so I'm concerned that may happen here as well.
If the high temp silver solder is ot recommended, would StayBrite hold well enough to trust the joint with my model?
TIA
Joe

If it was at least in the northern part of the States I would possibly attempt it once the Waco is built, but Florida is getting a bit far! 5867 kilometers! (3667 miles)

Joe,
My 1/5 scale and 1/4 scale cabin WACOs are done that way. Drilled a hole in the brass control arm, slipped it on the wire, and slid a wheel collar (with the chrome plating wire-brushed off) on each side of the brass arm. The wheel collars give some extra surface area for soldering, both on the brass arm and on the music wire. The whole mess is then soldered together with Stay-Brite. I've never had an issue with it and my friend also does it this way with some of his planes having 10 or more years on them.

Been at this hobby a long time and have never used anything other than standard 60/40 rosin core radio solder. Never had a problem.
