No Waco-ing going on here, just a little maintenance on the big green machine..... just putting together... (NOTE!,NOT building!) lol, 2 super cubs, one 1/4 scale and one 1/6th. scale.

Next big project to get into is my partially built 1/10th scale S23 Empire class 4 engine flying boat, 136" span. Haven't decided if going gas or electrickery yet. A couple of 1/3 scale sailplanes and the usual litany of soon to be, maybe, on the wish list etc., projects. Fortunately, the decision is fairly easy, I have no more room in the workshop, I'm tripping over airplanes![]

I have to spend a little time doing some TLC on the old Morgan sports car, haven't had it long....only had it 44 yrs.[X(] I have to get it ready for the car club's boxing day run.....BRRRRR! Top down, of course!![8D]

MIne is coming along pretty well. This afternoon I primed all of the metal parts or would be metal parts. The ailerons, cowl, wheel pants, windshield frame, and forward parts of the fuselage, which is covered with Koverall. Ihope that was not a mistake. Quick question.... Would there be part of the pinked tape (a half of it maybe)showing at the edge of the aluminum skins on the top and front of the fuselage?

Ihave the hinges fitted to the ailerons. I'm using the full length piano hinges. They should work very freely with the smaller diameter brass wire as the hinge pin. I'll post some photos later. I am planning to use the small 1/16" angles from plastistruct to make the corrogations on the ailerons. This will be a ***** of a job. Does anyone have any hints on how to keep them propperly spaces at 0.42 inches on center, and parallel, without getting adhesive (what would you recommend?) all over everything. I'm holding off on that job.

WhileI'm at it, here is another question: Would anyone have any photosof a YMF-5 painted in a cream and Maroon or Burgandy scheme. Possibly with scolloped trim on the wings and tail. Or something completely different from the typical WACOtrim scheme? I'm just looking for something different from the red and black and definitely not yellow.

I'm looking at a 1/3 Barth later this week that only has the fuselage about 60% framed up. The big issue is if the fuselage will fit in the back of my car. If it does, I'll buy it. If it doesn't fit, I'll order the 1/4 scale Barth.

This is a little different, pretty actually.

FYI I took delivery of my Barth1/4 Waco yesterday. Very nice kit from what I could tell with a quick glance through the box. Thin but well detailed fiberglass sections and a very nice tail wheel assy.

My Evolution 70 radial fits perfectly inside the cowl..

Joe you might consider making a slotted jig of say three spaces. Something from thin plywood or card stock. The slots would be aligned with a straight edge etc. Just glue down three at a time and work your way along the surface.

They are out there, just not easy to find. The first 39 YMFs produced by Waco Classic Aircraft have ths same structure as the original YMFs, the difference is the main landing gear is shorter by 3" and the tail has been raised 3". After S/N F5 0040, the fuselage is longer by 6" and wider by 4". You might want to contact Waco Classic Aircraft for photos of their YMFs.

The white and light Blue YMF is Robbin Williams NC 14081, a 1987 Waco Classic Aircraft. I do have around 200 pictures of it on CD for sale. NC 14031 (P5) the Dark Blue and Cream Y/UMF, the subject of Pica's kit and Paul Matts drawings, the owner has a CD of pictures of it for sale. PM or e-mail for more info on those 2.

The National Waco Club has many photos of the original YMFs (mostly B & W) with various colour schemes.

P4-The colors are Blue (Navy?) and white. The colors are listed in the Old Colors chart (NC 14032)

Well not to be lazy and not build my 1/5 scale, but space doesn't allow for it to happen. Although I am considering buying a GP ARF Waco, but I want to put a gas engine in it and I am trying to decide what engine to buy for it!! any suggestions? I am kind of considering a Zenoah 26cc unless somebody knows a better engine thats not to overwhelming in price something under $400.00 would be nice. Thanks in advance

Hello all,

Work on the Waco’s been kind of slow lately trying to put the finishing touches on another project seems like I just can’t do one thing at a time. Is it just me or does any one else have the same problem?

I do have a question I have a cub just covered with cub yellow solortex. I run the engine on it for the first time today (DLE 30) the oil from the from the muffler stained the covering and wont wash off. I can only assume you have to put some kind of clear coat over the covering. Any recommendations on what to do would be greatly appreciated.

The Zenoah G26 is a good fit for the 1/5 scale. The one I’m working on will have the G26 on it. I’m trying to build it as light as I can hope to bring it in less than 15 lbs.

Thanks for the photos. Ihad seen all of them esxcept 14377, the second one which is red and white or cream. In any case it would look good with cream trim. I don't remember seeing any other photos that showed the N-Strut fairings. Pretty neat, but could be difficult to replicate without a lot of time.

In any case, Ilike that scheme.

Bill, I have been a little busy lately what with the passing of my Mum then the death of one of my mates Dad, then the passing of my Dads sister,all in the one month. Packed up and went on a good holiday and now just back from a fishing trip with the boys.
Will get back to finishing the Waco shortly.

NX 14377 was at the American Waco Club annual Fly In that was held back in June and I had an opportunity to take a few pictures that are not commonly found on the internet.

I have about 55 +/- pictures of NX 14377 which is a 1935 UMF-5 replica hand built by John Hudec over 12 years and completed in March of 2004. It is currently owned by Don Grundstrom and Dean Maupin of Davenport Iowa.

The colors are Red and Cream, has inset ailerons, brass colored windscreen frames, Polished Brass on Burl instrument panels, Tan Leather seats and combing, Gold pin striping around the Cream accents and some other custom touches.

The lady in P3 does not come with it.

mrdhud, I use aceatone to clean off the oil. I also use LustreKote [Top Flight from Tower ] as a clear coat on my Solor Tex.

Sorry Joe[&o] I know it is bummer,

I do not know the lady (I think she is the wife of one of the AWC members) but she was dressed in period type clothes and was asked to sit in the cockpit and I was lucky enough to be able to take a couple of pictures.

An underlying theme to all of the AWC Fly Ins I have been at seems to be dressing in period clothes (or that's what I seem to feel) for the final banquet even though it is usually hot (90° plus) and most people are wearing shorts. We have had cars from the 1930's show up, the band that play's at the evening meals plays period music (1920 - 40's) and dressed in period clothes and even the non-Waco planes that put on demonstration flights or rides are generally from the Golden Age of Flight era. All in all, a good time with plenty to see and do.

The Military Aviation Museum in VABeach does the same type of event every year. They are a WW II warbird museum with all aircraft in flying condition. They have groups of enacters from all over come is as military units and set up camps around the airfield grounds. They represent units from England, the USof course, germany and I think , even Russia. I'll post a few photos to give you an idea. The entertainment is also period, as is a lot of costumes.

I know these are not WACO related, but this is a great museum. The collection there is very impressive and their annual events are fanastic!
