Tmac that’s some impressive work you've done. At this point I will use ball links as Robert suggested and go with the SWB servo arms and turnbuckles Jim has suggested. I may be able to hook the clevises back up and never have any problems but I will always have that on my mind so I will make some changes. Thanks to all for you thoughts and suggestions.

Kind of quite the past few days any one flying lets hear about it. I've got the 1/5 scale on the bench doing some preventative maintenance since I can transport it in one piece it doesn't get taken apart much. As it turns out I had some loose wood around the landing gear (hard landings) I got repaired and thought I'd replace all the fuel lines since its over four years old now other then that every thing else look good.
I'm busy installing radio equipment. I sold all my JR radio gear when I started this build and hell how things have progressed, no match boxes required to sync the four aileron servos, all done in the tranny---bloody amazing. All batteries up front and she balances slightly nose heavy, happy with that. Ordered an electronic gismo from the STATES to switch the landing lights on & off via the tranny.

Sometimes you just can't seem to win. A little over 3 years ago I had the heart issue and required a surgical procedure and a lengthy recovery. This May I suffered a significant stroke that I have been recovering. Last Monday, I had to endure a upper and lower scope. My Doctor called yesterday and informed me that the biopsy from the upper came back positive for cancer. Tomorrow, I have a PET scan to see if it is contained or if it is spreading. The involved area is the esophagus at the stomach junction. They are going to do surgery as soon as they find out if the cancer is contained, otherwise chemo will be required.
Ill be be leaving the thread in Dan Hudson's capable hands for a while. I need your thoughts and prayers. I'll be in contact with Dan as I am able. Fly those Waco's.

I wish you well Bill, sometimes life can be such a ***** but we learn to adapt and cope, that is part of what makes us what we are. I'm sure you will overcome.

First photo (from a very early thread here) shows what I thought was too complicated an installation of MVVS-Evolution 152 engine. Now I can understand why it was done. I tried to use standoffs but one got in the way of carb linkage. So I kluged up something that fit and wasn't happy with it. Waconut mentioned issues with standoffs and recommended a box. I went that way, and appreciate the suggestion. Nice and rigid. But the rear mounted carb was in the box. So I had to put in a linkage with bellcranks, etc to run the throttle and choke. That's done. Then the Evolution mufflers got in the way of the engine mount box. I was going to install them backwards. Then Tmac suggested I might not want to do that for assembly problems and scale appearance of exhaust tubes.. He was right, and I appreciate his suggestions. I put them on oriented as they should be. But I still had to cut a half inch off the back face of the barrels to clear the fiberglass ring on front of fuse. Then I made aluminum spacers to move the mufflers down a quarter inch. And I still whacked a little out of the bottom corners of engine mount box. It's done. Almost ready for paint, which will be automotive. I'm not to great with paint so I have a relative who owns a bodyshop who agreed to do it. It's been a long effort.

Hi BIll-
Sounds like you and the doctors are being proactive, and with your spirit, will address any obstacles head on....Will say a prayer for your speedy recovery...
When you have a chance, I'd like to join the brotherhood. I've been a longtime lurker on this thread and it has taken me a while to work through...I am working on a Fleet bipe now, but would like to get started on a YMF in either 1/5th or 1/4 scale.
Talk to you soon.

Gordon,
Let me give you a pre welcome the the brother hood as I know Bill will as soon as he can. If you've made it threw this hole thread you know you can order the plans for the 1/5 scale Waco YMF from the AMA don't forget to ask for the templates. Look forward seeing your build.

Dan you sure deserve a medal for perseverance,I would have traded the EVO for a DA long before now.
Gordon, welcome, my I suggest that you take a look at the Peter Barth 1/4 scale YMF 5 kit.
Regards tmac. PS DAN how about some photos before paint?

I added another photo because I appreciate the classic looks. Way back when the original full scale plane was designed, they must have had an eye for style. Besides the Waco there are a few other planes I look at as works of art like the P 51 and Connie.
I'm shopping for decals now. Info I have so far is from Cal Grafx (sp?) and Kirby's Grafics. If there are other good suppliers for 1/3 YMF, please advise.
Thanks,
Mike Hopkins

Tmac,
Your workmanship on P 51 is excellent! Same with your YMF. Never seen any better! I like your 'I could have bought...' Same here. Back in college as a student pilot, I could have bought a flyable SNJ for 1k US, or a 'good' P 51 for 20k. But I barely had beer money.

Mike H

Tmac,
One more. This might sound like a dumb question, but did you trim the back side of cowl on right and bottom to make the gap uniform with prop hub centered in front (to compensate for down and side angular offsets of engine)?
Thanks,
Mike H

Don't worry about it. Most of our "down and side" is because of grossly overpowered air frames, and overly aggressive thumbs. I have done a number of scale jobs with neither.
