I have the OS 120 Surpass III (with pump) on my GP Waco and it is definitely more than "scale" power. I had some problems getting the CG right, it was tail heavy. Finally moving the battery forward and using a Dubro chromed brass prop nut (3 oz) brought it into range.

I have a Saito 125 on mine and find it too has plenty of power. I needed additional weight up front to get to the recommended CG location so I used the firewall shelf to mount the reciever battery, used a heavy brass prop nut and hub and added a bar of lead weight mounted to the motor mount too. During one flight the bar fatigued due to vibration and broke off. I didn't notice any flight issues with the weight gone and have flown it that way since. It hasn't been out yet this season as I was finishing up a winter build (BUSA 1/6 Nieuport 28C) and had a successful maiden Memorial Day. I DID have my new WACO t-shirt on for good luck!

I have a Q35 in mine. It is built from a kit and came in all up weight at 17 lbs.
Balanced out right on the money.
But wow, this thing comes alive when you have power and speed. Amazing.
No offence to all the scale guys, but I use throttle to fly scale

I would love to use the radial but I certainly don't want to add weight to balance it. Of course the Saito 1.50 is out of stock. What about the 1.20R3?

Is this the FT-160 Twin? If so, what RPM's are you getting out of it? Prop size? I'm trying to fly in a FT-160 right now for my WACO kit build. I'm flying a Zinger 16x6-10 and I get about 7200 out of the engine.

Yes it is the Gemini Twin 1.60. It's been awhile since I've taken any RPM readings but if I remember correctly I was getting around 8000 - 8500 on a Zinger 16X6 and around 7500 - 8000 on a Graupner 16X6, both with Omega 15% fuel.

Hello all
Has any one striped down the GP Waco to see how it's built and then recovered in a more scale covering? just thinking I may do it.

I bought my 1/5 Pica kit at a swap meet and the fuse was partially done. I have done a lot of cutting and rebuilding changing the firewall to accommodate a gas engine and fix some of the original owners miss steps. Bottom wing down, top wing half way there and the fuse almost completed. The only complaint I have with the kit is the original instruction booklet. It is almost better to just build straight off the plans.

Can someone tell me what size the main gear wheels are on the GP WACO please. I'm about to order my plane and wanted to replace the wheels with Dubro wheels.

Thanks

Thanks mrdhud, it's good that I didn't order them already, I would have thought they were the same as the GP Super Stearman, 4".

Hi Guys,
I thought I would share something with you, my 7 year old grandson graduated to flying gas planes this weekend. He put 5 flights on my 30cc Stick. He soloed on a 3 channel Kadet when he was 4 and has been flying my Twist 60 regularly and tearing up the skies. Of course he has to wear his WACO Brotherhood shirt to the field.

Here is a little video of one of his flights. Unfortunately not his best landing, he came in a little wide of the runway. The larger plane is throwing him off a bit.

Later!!

Thanks Steve, very proud of him. He is a really good kid.

Dan,
He is eyeballing my WACO and my 1/3 Cub. I will probably let him fly my Cub this year. He fly's the pattern inverted and never mixes up left and right or up/down. You may have noticed the Stick was inverted at one point in the video. I am buying him a 30cc Extra ARF to practice aerobatics with.

Later!!

Hi Jeffo,
I am taking a break on the Stinson. Between flying, garden and getting a garage built I set it aside until winter. I will get back to it and see it completed.
Later!!

Hello all,
Here is a video of a 1934 UMF It was restored in the original colors about 4 years ago. It is one of the few original UMFs flying. Thanks for sharing that video with us Barry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQaei6E7Xwc

Dan, as you may remember that was my first choose when i started with the G.P. kit, didn't seem to make life any easier though, if you want i'll give you the bones of mine to play with then you don't have to destroy yours.
