Do you refer to the landing gear? if so then no I did not make them, I bought them from CENTURY JET. If you wish any further info on them feel free to PM me.

If the weather permits (can not fly on days of total fire danger) this coming Saturday.

Dear All,
I am looking for a building report for my third scale Waco, it was in RC Universe but I cannot find it, does any one know where I have to search?

Happy New Year to all you Waco enthusiasts.

Peter I have tried to send you an email with the link but not sure that it has worked. If you use the search button in RCU and type in - Building the 33% Barth Modellbau - it will direct you to it.
regards tmac48. I may be interested in building another Waco, the Australian $ is very low at the moment so may wait for it to rise a bit first. Is the current price list up to date?

Hi tmac,
no it did not work I did not receive your PM. The price list on the web site is not up to date sorry for that but we are in the course of developing a new model a bipe no Waco but a bit larger scale, fuselage same length as the third scale Waco but a bit larger wing span. Hope the maiden flight will / can take palce this spring. A/C was build with all three types of engine, radial, inline, and opposed 4 cyl.. Series production start is depending on the flight test results.
Current price for the Waco is 1278,00€ which is nearly the same in US$. Let us know in advance when you want to purchase a kit so we have time enough for manufacuring.
Thanks for the link.

Thanks for your reply. Price of Waco is close to $2000 AUS plus freight that would make it close to $3000 all up. Will wait and see if our dollar can bounce back up a bit! Love to know what your new model is??? I must say after having built a Barth kit I do want to build another.

Hi tmac,
found it, I didn't know that this thread reports the assembly of the previous version of the Waco kit. Current kit is different with CNC - cut parts out of lite ply with notches for the stringers and a gage to adjust the upper center wing easily and correct. So the kit is much easier and fast to built.

Peter, Yes I did realize that you have a later version of the Waco from the one that I built, all very welcomed improvements, it just gets better with each version!
Now for the latest on my landing gear, first landing was a little hard and bent the 5/16 axels and the inner olio struts . Have removed the gear from the plane and will try and source some tougher material for the struts and axels. The axels I might live with for now because it would be nice to have them as my week point while sorting out the struts and the correct tension for the springs. Of course the next 2 landings were next to perfect!!

tmac, from your last post it sounds like the new gear is working out except for the axels. do hope you can get them corrected. would love to see a video of a landing. FMBB, Peter, good to see your still visiting the page, thanks for the updates on the Waco's, do hope all tests go well.

regards

Chris, the gear is a long way from being acceptable ! The main problem being the strength of the stainless to stand up to loads that are being placed upon it. I have found some chrome molly that I had when I was going to manufacture my own, it is at the machine shop now having bushes and holes drilled for the axels along with the slot to stop the whole deal from twisting. I think this will fix the inner strut problem but time will tell if the outer strut can stand the stresses, may have to replace it as well. Will leave the axels as the week point while sorting out the best spring tension. This is all try and see as to what works, not having an engineers degree , try and try again is all I can do! BUT I WILL GET THERE IN THE END.
Having so much fun

Looks like this thread is dying a slow death. Do we shoot it in the head and put it out of its misery or how do you suggest we generate more interest?

I'm not actively building or flying right now, but certainly enjoy hearing what others are doing. One day I WILL build my Waco, so I'd hate to see the thread go away, or be silenced.

I don't think it would be a good idea to quit, It will be a big loss to our hobby and to other people who are just beginning to build a Waco and need help just as I did when I was working on mine.

I would be disappointed if this thread was discontinued. I admit I haven't been much of a contributor in a while, but I'm still planning on finishing my half-built 1/4 scale Barth Waco. Since we started wintering here in FL a few years ago my Waco activity has slowed down considerably. It's just too big to haul to FL to work on it plus my shop here is small. Then when I get back to MI in the spring I get sidetracked onto projects that have been ignored all winter because I was in FL. I've decided this year the Waco is going to the top of the list. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. I say keep the thread alive. My humble opinion.

Must be nice, Mike! Down to 18 degrees here with ice and freezing rain since Friday! No shop trips for me 'til the ice goes away! I'm in NC, so that could change in a second or so! Back to the thread: You guys are a source of great admiration and respect for me, as someone lacking the awesome skills and economic wherewithal to pull off the great builds I've seen here! Keep on keeping on guys, inspiration is priceless! Besides, I keep hoping one of the "Brothers" might grow tired of, or lack the room for, a 1/4 scale Waco, and sell or trade me one! Let's keep this thread ALIVE!

I too have mine off in the rack as other projects take precedence over the winter, but that's not unexpected as it is pretty strong and reliable. Will be going through it for the new season before you know it.
