RE: OS Max 50
Ok i will think about it. Thanks. But i can turn it on without muffler or the missing screw.
Another interesting thing is that one of the rings (lower one) has got on the exhaust port side. The line you know that line which close the ring.

RE: OS Max 50
Hello, I just got an OS 50 fsr in a group of airplane accessories I purchased. I was told it was in great running order and had only actually been used over the past 5 years. I mounted it in a plane and tried firing it up. Seems to have decent compression and it turned over smoothly, but I couldn't get it running. Anybody know the factory needle settings on this baby?

RE: OS Max 50
Hi
I was running one of these also in my Snr Falcon, the only trick was to make sure no dirt got in the carb remove the needle and the bit that it screws into :- you must make sure that bit is really clean, Mine also liked a OS #8 plug or a Enya # 3,It was runs well on 25% Castor (Castrol M) with 5 % nitro:-I don't run anything on Syth Oil, that ismy personal thing I have seen too many burnt bearings and rust on used engines, stored with very little after run oil.
Needle settings about 2.5 turns:- Also because it has a dykes Ring you need to use a Electric starter I never could flip this one.
I have replaced mine with a OSMax 45 FSR ( Parts are Easy er to get for this one)
I hope you get it running, It is a good engine

Thanks a bunch for the response. When Itear it down for cleaning I'll make sure to get the carb needles really good. Thanks for the needle settings too. I'm gonna see if I can get her running after work today.

RE: OS Max 50
I recently picked up another Max .50, this one appeared to have never been run. It's an older version than the one in my first post. It has two rings and the tapped holes inside the exhaust port for the bullet-shaped rotating baffle (I removed it and put on a #703). I've been using Powermaster George Aldrich 29% straight castor oil fuel for the first several runs. Later I'll swich to 22% castor fuel. Even at this early stage of break in it has nice compression and starts with one flip after priming. Despite having two rings vibration seems very low at all throttle settings. You can tell when these things are vibrating because the spring NV extention becomes a blur.

RE: OS Max 50
I fired up my Osmax 58 today with 12,25x3,75 prop (i haven't got any smaller) And what i can say, sound with out muffler is very nice ;] it is nice to hear bass. It's not a power horse ;] but for pattern flying it would be ok. Is muffler givie an extra power? Is it be ok to fly without preasure fuel preasure system from exhaust or this engine would be dead stick very often ? Carburator is very creapy
Ps: Have anyone tach this enigne or 50 ? woth diffrent props?
Ps2: Non schnerle engines have got more torque in low rpms than schnerle?

RE: OS Max 50
Anyone have any ideas where I can get new bearings for the "OLD" O.S. Max .50? I picked one up and the needle bearing in the front fell apart. The back bearing is in pretty bad shape as well. I don't want to get rid of the motor but I can't seem to find anyone who makes those needle bearings anymore. If I can't find it I may trade it in on a "we want your old engine in on trade for a new one" deals. Thanks
