Default Debolt, Live Wires history and pictures

To all and especially the young crashmaster92. I am about to make some people that may have been there cry over the memories and the younger ones cry because they wish they could have been there. If you will look at the Live Wire post on page 3 and read this short thread on Wattflyer http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/show...ight=live+wire you will understand my infatuation with Live wires. First a little history and then a bunch of pictures. It was 1952 when my dad, Bill Turner and friend Tommy Walton went to a RC meet and saw Harold Debolt flying a Live wire Trainer. When they got back to Wilmington they hung up the UCs and started building Trainers which led to the first RC flights in Wilmington. These pics will show the developement of RC in our area through the mid 50s. The man with the yellow winged Trainer is my Dad and the guy with the red wings is Tommy, and the little guy is me. They are now 81 and still in good health. The 4th pic is the first RC flight in Wilmington. People say Tommy was born with a camera around his neck, he took it everywhere he went and made it possible for me to share this history with you. These pics are very old so look carefully and you may see alot of other goodies, old radios, cars, planes and maybe even yourself etc. This post will deal with only the Debolt stuff and the last 4 pics are bonus pics from Greensboro around 1956. You old timers will know what I mean! I am probably going to have to make a couple of post for the Debolt stuff. I also will be posting pics of other models as well as U control from the 40s in following post. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. These pics are for your enjoyment and to share. If you publish them please give Tommy the credit. ENJOY

Great pictures. Here is a picture of what looks like the transmitters in some of the pictures. Dad got it in the early 50's.

Hi Bill;

Greetings from the very warm and dry 'Valley of the Sun'.

Thanx so much for sharing your photos with us'ins in the 'net. I too, first saw RC planes being flown in 1956, at the old Aylmer, Ontario, Canada Air Force Base, [now the Ontario Provincial police College]. Local Controline flyers from the Tilsonburg Club were there, and I think that most of the RC fliers were from the London Forest City Flyers, [my old club]. Your Photos sure brought back happy memories of 'a'nudder time/a'nudder place. I had just completed grade school and was getting ready to start high school......alas; where did all the time go to?

Thanx for the memories, [Bob Hope's old theme song], best regards from Phoenix,

Joe Nagy.

The Live Wire II is still sitting on the shelf waiting for the winds to die down and for the club field to dry out.

Wow. I just got real choked up. In any one of these pics you could've transplanted my dad, although he belonged to the Pioneer R/C Club in Sunnyvale, CA. I remember it all- the hand launches, big tranmitters, escapements, soft tires, winding the rubber bands, dope, silk, on and on.
