MORE!!!! Mid-South VRCS Fly-In Pictures
OK, Guys Just a reminder that there is just a few weeks left before the Mid-South Vintage RC Society Fly-In at the SWAMPS flying field in Holly Springs, NC. Last years event was some of the best vintage model flying to date! We have placed our order for fair skies, warm weather and light winds so plan to make this years Mid-South Vintage RC Society fly-in on May 24 and 25. Check out the website at http://midsouthflyin.tripod.com for pictures of past events and such.
See you there!

Boy I'll bet the weather is getting real nice in North Carolina. We're just getting over the shivers up here in Connecticut.
Ever since I saw all your kits and planes at Apex Hobbies a couple years back I've been trying to make it to your flyin. Another year has to go by without a May trip down south.
I hope you all have a fine and safe flyin. Looking forward to the pictures.
Peace

Mark, good to hear from you. You may not be able to make the Mid-South but check the VRCS website www.vintagercsociety.org because there are a few reunions up your way also!! If you have not been to a VRCS meet you've missed some great models and the guys who build and fly them!!!

Well guys looks like great weather for the Mid-South Fly-In this weekend. Remember to bring your sun screen as I got a bit toasty last year! Please let me know if you need directions as I have a map I can send. Pasty is cutting the grass Friday morning so the runway should be in really good shape for those small wheeled models. I should be at the field Friday afternoon setting up if anyone gets in early and wants to get a bit of flying in. I’m bringing my Min-X galloping ghost system in the antique Little Esquire as well as a couple Ace pulsers and my DQA with the escapement system. Its going to be fun!!
See ya there!!!

Bob,
Those are some good looking pictures you posted. It's great to see some of your work and to be back in touch with you after so many years. I wish I could be up there this weekend. Take plenty of pictures.

Back from this years VR/CS event in NC and just wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped put it together. I allways look foreward to this event every year & this was no exception. I got to meet some new people, talk with others i met in the past & help out fellow flyers with problems with their equipment. I am looking foreward to next year allready, and thanks to my wife, while i was flying, she went and bought me a Sig Astro Hog kit to build from one of the vendors there! I know what i'll be takeing there next year to fly. I have allready been reasherching the Hog allready. I allways wanted to build one and now dont have an excuse. Looking towards next years event allready.....Gene Poremba

Gene, good to see you there. I beleive the threating weather and possibly high gas prices kept a few people away but we had a great time and got sunburned too!! Going to post a few pictures of the event in a while.
By the way guys, Gene is the man when it comes to monocote covering. I had to put on my reading glasses to really inspect his models. His trainermaster from last year was still flawless. Slick as glass. I picked his brain on how he gets and retains such a glass like finish on his models. Here also is a picture of his Kaos with Gene holding it. The shine from the sun on his finish kind of messed with my camera's auto focus so it darkened his face out. You just got to see the monocote finish he does!!!

I really prefer grass fields, and the SWAMPS field is one of the finest I've flown from -it is a pleasure to fly from that site.
This year as I write this, I have only ONE flyable plane, (my King Altair kit prototype), but will be adding a couple more soon. I practiced my SPA Novice routine. Next year I'm looking forward to having a Perigee to finish and fly. I also have two of Jeff's Taurus, (Primus) kits in the box.
Already looking forward to it. Bob, you always put on a great event, and the pictures from established and up-and-coming photographers are the best.

Bob, great pics!
Your very first one really caught my eye! It just so happens that as I type this my LHS has a NIB Carl Goldberg Shoestring sitting on their shelf, along with a couple others of the old OLD kits.
Just in case anybody might be interested, their website is www.Hi-Techobbies.com and the e-mail is [email protected] - - they're located in Harrisonburg VA.

RE: MORE!!!! Mid-South VRCS Fly-In Pictures
Hey, that's my Shoestring!
If any of you guys want a great flying, fully aerobatic model that gets many comments from modelers, vintage and modern alike, by all means call Tech Hobbies and see what they want for the Shoestring kit. On Ebay, they run from about 150 to 250 bucks. It's a PITA to build, more so than most older kits, but the results are well worth it. It looks great in the air and lands at Falcon 56 speeds. I built mine with 50% larger ailerons, which is the main mod. Great Plains Minnow fiberglass wheel pants are an exact subsitute. If I built another, I would make it an electric; the drag of a windmilling prop would help kill the float on landing...Russ Farris
