RE: History of RC
Yeah, a free-flight model whose only control was rudder? Bang-bang escapement, no proportional control? If your last command was left rudder, your next one was going to be right rudder whether you wanted it or not?? Huge B+ batteries and vacuum tubes?
I didn't actually fly one of those things, but I remember reading about them...

RE: History of RC
Speaking of the early days of R/C: Many years back, in one of the model magazines (thinking either MAN or RCM) thee was a very interesting article on the first known hobby type R/C model aircraft, a very large glider/sailplane with 4 channels (rudder left, rudder right, elevator up and elevator down) that was built, as I recall, in or near Capetown, South Africa.
Was well before the (great!) efforts of the Good brothers.
Anyone else remember that story?
