RE: Sterling RIMFIRE
I did get a set of Rimfire plans, but haven't begun a Rimfire build as yet. Two other projects currently on the bench.
Thanks for thinking of me.

RE: Sterling RIMFIRE
Bob,
Keith Miller (San Diego), made me a copy of his plans. Don't have his contact info handy, but I can check our local Staples store to see if they'll do a scan and print if you like. You might also contact "PROPTOP" and see if he is willing to part with his copy of the plans.

I don't have the plans...I just sorta stumbled across them while looking for Cox Tee Dee .09 parts...the guy who has them is a cool guy who I've bought stuff from before...he must be doing some "spring cleaning"?!
I remembered someone was looking for the plans, here in the vintage forum...(you're welcome Greg [8D] )
Bob...check out that number I gave yaz...he's only asking a buck for 'em...

Bob,
Sounds like you're set. Let me know how that laser kit idea works out. Can they scale the plans up to produce a .60 size version?

RE: Sterling RIMFIRE
Bob,
I'm interested in CAD drawing, but have zero experience with it. What software do you use? Is there a tutorial available? Got any advice on how to get started? Once you have a full scale drawing, do you just take the file to a Staples type place to print it? How do you get the image from the paper plan into the CAD program?
BTW: The plans don't have rib by rib drawings. In fact, there is only a root rib actually shown. I got the Profili 2 program and decided that the NACA 63-015A airfoil comes really close to matching the original Rimfire airfoil. I used the program to size and draw a complete rib set.
So much to learn.... so little time.

Hi ChiefK;
Greetings from the sunny and very wam "Valley of the Sun'.
I nailed a partial kit of Sterling Rimfire on eBay just last month, got it for $4.25 + S&H. Most of the wing pieces were gone, but all the rib die cut sheets remained, as were the LG wires and all the fuse parts, + the box was about an 8.5. The plans were a mess, but after about 2 hours of scotch-taping, got them to look good again, and then had 3 copies made, thinking I would build the fuse from the kit, scratch a wing and use the box to replace a real ruff one. The only problem is that I am back in Arizona and all my kit stuff is in Florida, and I wont be back there for a month or 2. If'n you can wait, I will glady mail you a set of the copies, let's touch base again later.
Well, a'nudder problem almost solved herein in RCU. best regards from Glendale, AZ,
Joe Nagy.

Greg, I use AutoCAD and have been for many years. I have a plotter here at home and also at work. There are many types of CAD programs out there that work very well. Try over in the Scratch Building forum.
I generally scan the plans into a tiff file and import them into AutoCAD and trace everything over. Takes some time but when I'm on the road for work it gives me something to do.
I put a watch on the plans so maybe I can score. I too have Profili and can make some ribs. I was thinking a foam wing version may be an alternative. What do you think?

RE: Sterling RIMFIRE
Bob,
What little I know about AutoCAD is that it's a very expensive program. Maybe I can find an AutoCAD program of a not current version for a bargain price on the auction site. I'm very comfortable with computers and graphics software... I do photo restoration with Photoshop, professionally. Do you have a scanner capable of scanning a full size set of plans, or do you have them scanned somewhere? Did you contact the guy willing to sell a set of plans for $1.00?
I think I'd prefer a built up wing, but certainly nothing wrong with a foam wing.

RE: Sterling RIMFIRE
Greg, I have access to a scanner that can do 36 x 48 plans. This helps a lot or Kinkos can scan to a disk if you ask. The plans are up on auction and the first bid is $1.00. I will watch and make a bid when I see where it goes. A built up wing is better and lighter but takes a bit longer. I prefer builtup to foam anyday.

RE: Sterling RIMFIRE
I had a complete, brand new in the box, unmolested kit. I even had a nice period correct Enya picked out to put in it but my storage facility was broken into and it was one of the kits stolen.
I would love to get ahold of a set of plans and a lazer kit.

RE: Sterling RIMFIRE
Hi,
If anyone here is the highest bidder on the Rimfire kit that miss the drawings I just wanted to tell that I have an unbuilt Rimfire kit including drawing. So I can probably fix a paper copy or digital copy (PDF and TIF) if needed.
If anyone else should want a digital copy that will be fine also.
One guy in the RC club I was member in 1970th had a Rimfire and K&B 40 with Tatone"exhaust stack" (Peace Pipe Series) as only "muffler" - absolutely no silence effect. Man it wasso load I think we all got a little bad hearing standing in vicinity of that model when it was run on ground before start. Last time I saw it fly wasin the winter probably 1975, it was a nice sunny daywith smooth ice on a lake, very cold since I remember even today I frooze as he... Most of us had been riding motorbikes to the lake to fly (some had cars for transportation of ourmodels).
The guy that had the Rimfire model had a brand new red EK-logictrol super pro 7ch radio in it. I had same radio myself but flew a Svenson Fly-Boy at that time with a Veco61.Those where the days...

RE: Sterling RIMFIRE
I built one of those things back around 1972 and put an OS Max .40 in it mounted inverted. I finished it with dope and did it up in white w/black trim and Air Force markings and it ended up with a kinda F-86 prop-jet look. I steered it around with an old 4 channel MRC radio. It flew real good -much like a Kaos -up untill one day when I was flying a little too low on a high speed inverted pass..... I'd love to build the same plane again - same color scheme and all.
