RE: Ohlsson & Rice Antique Airplane Engine
Hi Jim, The only engine I have now is a Herb Wahl reproduction of the 1938 Gold Seal new in the box with the papers signed by your grand-dads partner Erwin Ohlsson . I am not a collector I just like to restore the O&R's . I just sold several on eBay the last few days & now restoring a O&R .049 race car for a collector . Good luck in your search . Max Hansen

The guy who was selling the O&R's in W8YE's Market Place link is a buddy of mine...
I sent him an e-mail and gave him a link to this thread.
I don't know if the engines are still available though? (he should reply soon )

RE: Ohlsson & Rice Antique Airplane Engine
I stumbled onto this site because I was looking for information on an old Ohlsson engine that was used on a small outboard motor called an Aqua Bug. I read the above entries and thought about the Ohlsson and Rice .23 that was my first model airplane engine. It came in a blister pack that myDad brought home one evening, and we had to assemble it from scratch. I learned a lot about internal combustion engines with it. I used that engine until the front bearing was so worn that it wouldn't start. I think it was purchased at the old ABC Model Shop on South Main in Houston, Texas. This brings back a lot of fond memories over the years of Fox .35s, Spitfire .045s, Herkimer .049 and .074s, and after I got in the military in Japan, Enya and O.S.

You must be joking!
Without a list, it is hard to put a value on what you have but you will be lucky to get 250 bucks for what I see in the photo.

ebay may be a good place to look for a o&r engine... but some sellers may make a false listing and have the actual product but a false photo, so if you use ebay be weary

RE: Ohlsson & Rice Antique Airplane Engine
Just purchasedan old balsa, gas powered airplane to hang in my garage and found this website while researching it.The plane is aparasol design of the prewar style, though I suspect the kitswere available for many years.I know it is hard to tell but the wings are red, white , & blue with early war AAF stars. The number on the wing appears to be AMA15808. There have never been any radio control servos, or line controls, I guess you just hand launched it and gave chase? The engine is an Ohlsson 60, s/n 5779, could someone tell me when this thingwas built?Maybe the name of the kit? Would it be considered a crime against humanity to re-cover the wing?

RE: Ohlsson & Rice Antique Airplane Engine
A second check will be interesting, is the number correct? Ohlsson 60, s/n 5779?
If the number is correct it can be between 1941/42.
1941 1228 to 4675
1942 5998 to 10654
Taurus Flyer

By the way I would not take the engine apart as it has a bunch of loose needle bearings in the front housing for the crank. Should be a hatch on the side for the batteries & maybe timer . Free flight , set the timer ,let it go & hope you can find it again. Max

RE: Ohlsson & Rice Antique Airplane Engine
Thank you so much for the information on my recent acquisition. The serial number is correct 5779. What is your opnion on restoring the Goldberg Sailplane? Would that be a mistake?

I found a O & R 23 (I think it's a 23) that my uncle gave me back in the late 50's early 60's. It's glow not spark ignition, and it's missing the spray bar.
SN# 425341 so I think it's early 50's production. Is it worth anything?
Thank
Jim

Hi,
I have acquired an O&R .60, S/N 070378, and I am not sure of the plane. I was told it is a Senior Playboy. I think the electronics are in the plane put no idea where the spark wires are. Any idea where I can go to possible get this motor running and possible fly this again. It is built as a free flight. Thanks for your help. I can't post a picture but the plane is similar to the one above. The motor has a glass tank behind it.
EDIT: I should add that the plug is a Champion V, made in the USA.

RE: Ohlsson & Rice Antique Airplane Engine
Hi, just joined up. Have an old tired fly by wire Cub, bought at auction of the70's. Looks like engine is an O&R 23, has 23 on front of cylinder. Its stuck. Best way to rejuvenate this old job? Tried to post pics, but this is my first post, it says I can't do that until I have posted nine more times! Can send pics to anyone that wants them. Thanks. KTS
