Bridi Rearwin speedster build?
 

Hey guys, does anyone care to watch a build thread on the late 70's bridi 1/4 scale Rearwin? I don't mind doing a build thread, in fact I like it cause you meet a lot of nice people on here, but it's just as easy not to,. I won't do it if no one replies. Let me know. I am ready. Sounds interesting. How much will it weigh? What kind of power? I am all electric, so far up to 20 pounds.

I'll watch the thread as I have one of these kits and cannot make my mind up re building it or selling it.

I did make a start on it and got as far as the longeron box fuselage and then ran out of interest as I switched to another model.

I was not impressed with the way the full length longerons stopped at the cabin and I put doubler lengths in behInd them to carry the strength thru into the front halve of the fuselage. If you check the plan you will see what I mean

Well, I pulled it down out of the rafters, opened it up and started going over the plans. I plan to use a super Tigre 3250 which will require some modifications to the engine box.i did plan to finish up my other project first, but ran out of $$$. So what the heck, might as well get started on this one. I hope you guys enjoy, and maybe some of you have built this kit in the past and can share some of your knowledge. Thanks, Steve.

Wow, I just finished picking through he entire lumber yard, with the help of the plans and material list, and identifying and labeling all of the parts including all of the die smashed parts and sticks. All was there and seemed to be in very good shape. I was a bit worried when I bought it considering the condition of the box. It was pretty rough.any way, I'm looking forward to starting to cut and glue. I just have to take a ride to kinkos and make a copy of the plans, then I will be going, wa hooooo.i love these old kits. Much more of a challenge than the kits of today, which I enjoy just as much because of the ease of building. Thanks for following, Steve.

you are not going to be short on power with the Super Tigre 3250 ( 32.5ccs) - the kit box quotes engine size as 60 to 120 ( 10 to 20 ccs) and I was planning to put a laser 120 4 stroke in mine. Are you planning to tow large scale giiders??

It actually calls for a quadra 2.2 . The 3250 is a 1.98. You would need to use a reduction drive with a smaller engine. I'm not really planning to tow any thing, I just happened to have a NIB 3250 so I figured this was a good candidate. Thanks, Steve.

So, yeah, what's up with that? John was right when he said it calls for a .60, with reduction drive, but it also calls for a quadra 2.2, which is obviously a far leap from a .60. So what, you can use any thing in between? From the size alone, I can't really see a .60 even getting this off of the ground. Just wondering. Well, any way, I cut and glued the first pieces tonight. It ain't much but it's a start. Steve. And again, it won't let me upload pics. Try again tomorrow.

The one I saw fly as a kid had a OS .90FSR. Your engine will be way too much power.

I think the Quadra was one of those things that helped sell the plane to many people, as the engine was a hot seller and needed planes to fit, buy I think it was a plan afterthought. Whatever you would put on a SIG Clipped wing Cub would be just right.

Hi:will be anxious to follow this build.My friend I fly with just acquired one damaged and rebuilt it.Useing a DLE 30 but he flys!! it does nice vertical very acrobatic and definitely enough power.He sold me a Moki 180 which should be ample power for us who aren't quite that good or demanding of our planes.Mine is safely tucked away in it's box with apparently Bridis autograph on the outside of the box .

Hey eagle, so yours was before GP bought out Bridi? Mine just has a GP sticker slapped over the Bridi mark.i was thinking about buying a DLE 30 or 35 for mine. I won't be doing much crazy flying either, probably just light aerobatics. I have other planes made for the crazy stuff. It will probably be a long time build being that I have quite a few projects going at once. Thanks for following along. For some reason I haven't been able to upload any pics in a few days. I'll keep trying though. Steve

I have a friend that has built that very plane years ago and put both a ST 2500 & 3000 in it and both flew great. Was covered in silk and dope.
I would think something like a DLE 20-30 would be good.

Wow, it's letting me finally upload. The stabs, rudder, and elevators are done, aside fron shaping the LEs. The wing took me a bit to figure out exactly what they wanted where the wing halves join the fuse. Now that that's all figured out it should move along a bit better. I will try to get the wings done during the week, but well see. Thanks, Steve.

Well, today was a VERY productive day on the speedster. I had the day off from work, and the wife and kids were out all day, so I spent about 11 hours working on it. The wings are about ready to be shaped and sanded, and the fuse is started. For the first time in my whole life, I don't have enough t pins. The reason I needed sooooo many was that the entire fuse structure got epoxied as per the plans. I haven't touched the CA or Tite bond since I cut the first longeron. I suppose it should be very strong, but every piece had to be pinned extra good to keep them from moving at all. So far, not a bad build. Until next time, happy landings. Steve.

Well, progress has definitely slowed a lot being that every single joint had to be epoxied, so it was one piece at a time. One can only glue so many pieces in one night. But all in all, a fun build and it's all going well. The fuse is coming along. Pretty much the inner frame of the front half is done. Hopefully tonight I can get going on the back half. Thank you Tom.yes, I am impressed with my progress. I'm not used to being able to spend soo much time building. In past winters I have been much busier at work which is a blessing, and a curse. Plenty of time to build, but no money to build. I certainly expected to take a lot longer to get to this point. I think this will be a wonderful addition to my hanger. Well, another day with no work = more build progress. For the most part, the fuse is all framed up.just some little details, and the stabs need to be mounted, the wing saddles need to be finished, along with mounting the wings. All in all, the big stuff is done, just a huge list of small stuff and sanding. Thanks, Steve.

I admit the framing up is my favorite, and then I start to drag my feet with the details ;) I hope you stay on such a positive production quota ! hahahah
