Gentleman, I'm just an old school builder, sunday, mon , wed, fri  flier, only interested in good info. I looked into this forum only because you guy's are the best, and I want the best info I can get. I'm only building this plane for my enjoyment only. I don't compete or enter any contests. I've been building plane's for over 30 yrs. I've wanted to build this plane for many years, now I actually have the time. I want to thank you all for all your advice. I don't want to start new debates over old issues, most of you are well beyond me. Thanks again. George

Ahhhh now where is your sense of adventure?:D

My wife was trying to dig a hole in the yard to plant a flower and she asked me to come over and dig it for her she said she didn't have enough @$$ to push the shovel in, after a quick glance at her backside I replied "Yeah you do":)

Gentlemen.

I was not able to make any post earlier as my Comcast feed cable was cut off by my wife of 39 years since yesterday at about 12 noon. No I will not make any comments about the size of her empennage, but it was sufficient to apply the required force to push the shovel in the ground and cut the cable.

I found this website for Mick Reeves from England and that is where I will get my flat wires from

Robert, thanks for the welcome. I will definately enjoy the build. I hope its as challenging as everyone has said it will be. I really haven't had that much sucess with plans from the AMA plans service. Most of them that I have ordered were disappointing, John suggested the 1/5 scale WACO YMF. that sounds pretty good for me. The fiberglass parts can be obtained from 2 places I'm very used to buying from. I appreciate all your help from the forum. If I get stuck I know I can get the help I need to be sucessful. Thanks again George

Per Greg Hahn-AMA. Design build is drawing your own plans. Scratch/plan build is building from comercial plans. And all fell under scratch build until 2010 when a particular fella didn't want to compete together because he drew his own plans and didn't feel he should have to compete with those that didn't.</p>

Yeah, but per Greg Hahn, most of us are just Bottom Feeders. Remember that one? Greg is a good friend of mine, but you need to remember that he pretty much builds from enlarged plans. I have to say that anything that he says concerning this is suspect. Let's get this thread back on track please.

George, sorry if this has been said before, but when you order your plans from AMA, be sure to tell them you want the templates, as well. It is my understanding that they will not automatically include the templates with the plans set. Templates were drawn by Bill (Stickbuilder) from one of his kits.

RE: WACO YMF

rccrasher65, Your welcome.
Well nobody is posting any build so I will. The way I had the flair on the landing gear was not working, cracking at the end's.
So this what I'm doing now. I think it will look better andwill becloser to scale. And my wheel pant's came in today. Dan told me they needed to be modified, narrowed by a quarterof an inch.
And by photo's I agree. So. Pic's of it all
#1 What the flair was before, balsa and filler.
#2 Where I'm at now. Tomorrow I will glass over and then take the glass offand peel all the filler/mold off and attach the glass by way of screw's like the full size. Will it work, don't know yet.
#3 The tool I'm going to use to cut 1/4" out of wheel pant's. This way one cut = both cut's evenly, hopefully.

RE: WACO YMF

Robert, I will be interested in how your flairs work out once you have them in fiberglass. I have mine carved from balsa, and split at the rear for mounting. My plan was to glue them to the landing gear, but leave a small bit of clearance, (card stock thick) between the flair and the fuselage, to let the gear flex.

acerc 06-22-2011 06:41 PM

RE: WACO YMF

Jim, That's sound's like what I had before. And with just the movement while working on it 2 day's ago I noticed small cracks in ( for lack of a better word ) the corner's.
If all goes well, tomorrow afternoon I should have one side made. Will post as soon as done.

RE: WACO YMF

Robert,

Are you considering making a mold for the left and right side fillets? These could be quite popular... :^)
You could possibly earn back against your misery. Utilizing Bob Smith's Gel CA or Flex (rubber infused)
CA would provide more strength. They are less brittle than either indo or exo thermic resins.

Our WHD fillet molds were lost along with the cowl and pants. Something that will have to be redone
before people will want the plansets again.

RE: WACO YMF

Actually Ed, what you see wrapped around the gear is a type of rubber. Once it's set I can remove it in one piece. And at a point in the curring one take's one finger wet with water and buff's the surface out. Finish should be smooth as glass. So I could use this as a mold. If previous experience serves me, as long as one uses a release agent, it will last forever.
Short answer, That stuff is a mold.
If it turn's out good enough, I would be happy to make them for my fellow brother's.

RE: WACO YMF

Almost like a cosmetic prosthetic material. I have a friend who owns a prosthetics business. Is it latex or RTV based? That would make
for an excellent boot material for my CASA-2111e (Spanish He-111e) gear. The springs have a rubberized boot over them. That could
be more durable than rubber glove fingers. Look forward to seeing them after they cure and see if they meet the durability requirement.

RE: WACO YMF

Jim I'll make sure I do that. I'm going to order them next week. Thanks for the reminder, George

Bill,

Did you receive the email I sent yesterday? Network Solutions was challenged Monday and again yesterday by international attacks
so some email traffic flat fell off the planet.

I'll go ahead and post the question here...

http://www.bomberfieldusa.com/merge1.jpg

Is there any interest in the WACO Brotherhood conducting a national WACO exclusive or WACO & Stearman Exclusive Fly-in at Bomber Field in Houston?
Our facilities include 10 pilot stations, complete kitchen, motor home hook-ups, electricity, covered pit building, hangar for locking aircraft safely at night
and plenty of open Texas sky. We hosted the IMAA Ralley Of Giants last year some photos appear below.

Our parallel grass runway was being leveled and the sprinkler system was being added when this aerial photo was taken. The grass runway is nice and
green, along with all our infield, pit grounds and ground level spectator viewing thanks to water wells... Wish the surrounding property was the same
amidst our drought. Grass runway is 1100 ft, paved runway is 775 ft x 50 ft.

Hi Errol,

Another Saffa here. Just took delivery of 33% AMR Waco. Will be putting a 150 Moki in it. Not sure if you got my private message.
I contacted Peter Barth asking about his 33% and how I could get it to SA. He actually said I should contact you and gave me your number.

Whereabouts are your flying?

Kind Regards,

Jason Mansfield

Absolutely I'm in, But I don't have too far to drive so my opinion is biased.
