Is Top Flite At-6 Texan 60 a Good First warbird?
I have been flying my Hangar 9 Pulse 60 with a RCGF 15cc gasoline engine. I'm looking for my first 60 size warbird where I can remove the 15cc gasser engine from the Pulse 60 and put it in my first warbird. I really like the Top Flite "At-6 Texan". Is this warbird a good first warbird for someone like me who is coming off a sport flyer or should I look for a different warbird? I have read that tip stalls are a problem with Texans if speed is not maintained during turns?
Or, maybe I should look towards a Hangar 9 60 size warbird? If so, which one would be most appropriate?

If you can fly an airplane that's the equivalent of an Ultra Sport .60, you should have no difficulties flying the Top Flite AT-6 ARF. However, we wouldn't recommend any engine larger than a .61 two-stroke or .91 four-stroke engine. If your 15cc gasoline engine is close in weight to that of a .91-size four-stroke engine, then it should be OK. As always, weight is a consideration.

Ok, Bax thank you for your kind help! Maybe that Texan is strictly a glow or a Saito four stroke Fg-14 gasser bird?
From the description on Tower Hobbies, it sounds like that Ultra Sport .60, besides being a pattern plane, can also act as a first time low wing trainer for someone just coming off a high wing trainer? Just like my H9 Pulse 60? If this is the case, as indicated by Tower Hobbies's description, then I can fly this airplane with no problem. I assume the Texan will handle the same way?

If you are on your second airplane, an Ultra Sport may be a bit much. You really need a more-gentle handling airplane, such as a Goldberg Tiger .60. Then go to the Ultra Sport. We're not at all familiar with a Pulse .60, so we have nothing to compare.

Bax,
The Pulse 60 is very similar to the Sig Four Star series airplanes and Sig Four Stars are very much like the Carl Goldberg Tigers.

I know this is a little bit of an older thread but Ihave the top flight at-6 Texan 60 size and I put a Magnum XL 120 FS glow engine in this plane and love it. I have no problems with the plane being nose heavy it worked out perfect. This thing has great power and sounds amazing you wont need to fly full throttle with this engine in it. You are right about the low speed tip stalls but its not bad at all but thats most low wing planes. It was my first warbird and I love it!

I know old thread, but one plane I have interest in. Considering engine sizes, the Magnum weighs in at 31.08 oz, so in theory a DLE 20 weighing in at 28.9 oz would work well in this plane. Should make a good power plant for this kit.

As always, you must be aware of overall weight. With the gasoline engines, it's not always the weight of the engine, but the weight of the ignition components, too. The Top Flite Gold Edition AT-6 Texan should be kept below 10 pounds for best flight characteristics. It will fly very well on a .61-size two-stroke engine. Going with a 20cc engine may be getting into the area of overkill for this model.
