Default Go Brushless Motor question

Dear Readers,

I am looking to build a brushless motor for my Axe CP. I have decided to use one of the kits from gobrushless.com. What I need to build is a main motor that will power the axe cp in it stock configuration but also be able to upgrade to a belt driven tail in the future.

kvm rating ?
motor shaft diameter?
other useful information (number of truns)?

any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Keep up the good work!

Tom

Tom,

I don't have any of the info you are looking for but I am looking at the same conversion you are so if I find something out I'll share it.

Tom,

I built an Apex 300 mini from allerc.com. Couldn't find any info for what size wire, how many turns, gives what kv rating and power. I was trying to build a motor to turn the largest prop; ie most torque with lower rpm's. In my search I found the more windings you use, the lower the KV and the fewer turns and thicker wire you use give higher RPMs with lower torque. Anyway, I used the included wire and used 2 strands together. The technique was to measure 36 inches of 2 strands, wind them around each stator until it was full and as neatly as possible. This yielded about 11 turns before going to the next stator. The motor had only 9 stators instead 12 on high torque motors.

Result: haven't measured actual temps, rpms, or idle currents, but on a 8x4 prop the motor nearly burned my fingers after about 30 seconds. So I now have a 7x3 prop on a small jet that will accelerate straight up. So, I didn't get a torque motor, but it was fun experimenting and it's easy to do.

Here's a low res vid of the jet at half power.

Can you design a DIY motor to power the Axe? Maybe...

toms_cpcx-

I think you're looking for an Eflite Park 370 inrunner for the main motor. It's rated at 4100kv and I know others have had sucess in using this main motor when going separates. Most prices anywhere are $48. Sorry I don't know of a BL tail that will fit and work.

you're probably not gona want to go with a brushless tail because of the lag in speed up times on the brushless. They run real strong at full throttle but take quite a while to go from low throttle to high throttle like you would need for a tail.

About the 370, I dunno if that would be enough power for this heli. It's more than enough for the blade, but the max cont draw on it is 8A, seems like the axe would need a motor that had more like 10 or 12A on the upper end to be sporty. The 370 would work just fine if you were looking for a more docile flight, more or less like the stock motor.

Thanks for the info

So what about building the motors from the gobrushless.com kits. That way I can try to save some money on this project?
