Axe spins wildly with gyro active
I installed the Futaba gy240 gyro per the instructions on the helimax site. Everything appears fine, and the helicopter will hover smothly for about ten seconds. After ten seconds it begins to spin rapidly in a counter clockwise direction.
My setup is stock except for the recommended gyro and esc from the helimax site, and I am using a 9C radio.
Does anyone have any idea?
Thanks,
Beergator

RE: Axe spins wildly with gyro active
sounds like you have it reversed, if memory serves me well there is a switch to change direction, to test - disconnect the main rotor motor lead and advance the throttle on your tx, if your gyro is set right if you rapidly move the tail of the heli to the right (away from you) the tail rotor should activate and "resist" your movement. if you move the tail toward you and the tail rotor comes on, you have the direction wrong.

Actually it is reversed per the instructions. It responds correctly if I turn the heli left or right by hand. I tried un-reversing it just to test. That prompted the purchase of a new tail rotor.

If you are using the stock battery that will happen as it happened to me, I upgraded to a
ElectriFly lithium polymer 950mAh 11.1V

I'm using a 1200 mAh lithium, but it is about 4 years old. It seemed to power the helicopter fine before attaching the gyro though. Perhaps the gyro has just pushed it over the edge.
