Axe CP brushless motor pinion
I am really frustrated about the fact that I can't find a decent pinion gear for my brushless motor on my Axe. I'm using a 2.3mm shaft and my heli is equipped with the stock main gear. If anyone's found a suitable pinion other than the stock gear that came with it, please let me know.

Will those mesh properly with the main gear? I've bought a bunch of pinions already and all they do is tear up my main gear. Even though the stock gear for the Axe stresses out my motor, it meshes best out of all the gears I've found so far.

You need a pinion with a 0.4 pitch, in the tooth count choose between 13 to 15 teeth.
I got my pinions thru Helidirect, there in the Helimax AXE CP parts section, they have a variety of tooth counts to tune your headspeed to your liking.

Ok, so are you using a 2.3mm shaft and do u have any overheating problems even though u're using a 13T? I'm starting to suspect that my motor was just going bad, which is probably why my electronics were constantly overheating.

No my BL motor is not a 2.3mm (.090"), it was a 3.17 (.125") shaft, so I had to drill & ream the pinions to .1245" then press fit them on. Also that is a 14 tooth pinion shown in the photo above, I'm running a 3700kv BL motor with the 14 tooth pinion. My motor NEVER gets HOT, nor does the Lipo, at the end of a run in IDLE-UP motor temp is 120' & 20c lipo is 103 degrees (+/- a degree or two).
A smaller tooth pinion will provide LESS headspeed, and motor will draw less current, where as a higher tooth pinion will create higher headspeeds, yet current draw thru motor & lipo may become excessive, causing heat & premature failure.

Ok. Well that just about confirms it for me then that my motor went bad. Everything was good for 5 months and then suddenly things got ridiculously hot. I upgraded my battery and esc and it seemed to get worse, so yea, I'll replace my motor.

Really like my brushless motor! Tonight, flew 5 flights nearly back to back and it was warm, but not hot. The fan helps keep things cool as airflow is always needed to dissipate heat. The GWS motor on the stock gear is doing great!
They should have included a brushless motor on these things to begin with. They still have to be making a profit on replacement parts.

The only reason why they "break" is usually because they get dropped or bumped and the outer case becomes out of round. The magnets then hit the stator and it won't rotate. I've had two on some planes for 5 years now and they're running fine. There's nothing to wear out.

Yea, that's what happened to me. My motor was fine for a while and then one day I noticed it was so hot my heli frame was warping. It was either the fault of my esc or my damaged battery lol.
