Default CPv3 3in1 Confussion

Okay I am new at this so please take it easy on me.

I have a CPv3 with a Futaba GY240 Heading gyro setup per the instructions. Everything is working fine with the stock 3in1 with the tail motor run off the Gyro. My question is what/how do I get rid of the 3in1, I would guess I need another ESC for the main motor, but do I need a second Gyro? How does all thatwork?

Thanks
Bill

By removing the 3in1 you are removing the following:

Main brushed motor ESC
Tail brushed motor ESC
Rate Gyro

You didn't say if you were still using the 3in1 with your HH gyro or a separate ESC for the tail motor (C-12), if your are in fact using only the main motor ESC part of the 3in1, than yes all you would need is a 20-25amp brushed ESC for the main motor. Your AXE CP has been converted to SEPARATES! By switching to separates all you did was break down the 3in1 into individual componets, which is considered an UPGRADE! Separate Main motor ESC, Tail motor ESC & Futaba Heading Hold gyro.

Yes, I am using a C-12 for the Tail rotor.  So I gather that the 3in1 is just used for the Main Motor ESC now.  I will pick up a 25amp ESC for it today and get rid of the 3in1 for good.

Hi Shaddow,

I saw your reply about the Axe CP conversion to get rid of the 3in1 board. I was wondering if you could be a little more specific and also wondering about getting rid of the reciever and also going to a brushless motor. I am new to helis so please speak slowly javascript:void(AddText('','_image/s1.gif')) without the heli lingo. I would apreciate any help you can give.

What function does the stock gyro (on the 3-1) supposed to do? If I add the HH gyro do I still have to keep the stock one?

the 3 in 1 just a gyro and two ESC's; so if you have those three components (gyro + main and tail ESC's), you don't need to and should not use the 3 in 1.

Thanx. I just replaced a burned 3-1 and tail motor. Added a 3Amp fuse to protect the 3-1. But is the stock gyro a heading hold? The instructions say to let the heli stand for 10 seconds to set the gyro so I assume it is. If not, what else is it?

Cheers

Gentlemen,

The stock 3 in 1 actually does 4 things.  The three mentioned are the gyro and the esc's for the brushed main and tail motors.
The one not mentioned is the BEC, aka the battery eliminator circuit.  This is what supplies the correct voltage to the receiver
and which is used to power the servos.  The receiver and servos want around 5 volts, not the 11.1v supplied by the LIPO.

This is important when you go to a separate tail motor esc and gyro.  The tail motor esc can supply power to the receiver
just like the main motor esc.  The Axe manuals say to pull the red wire (the power wire) out of the three wire connector
from the tail motor esc.

The gyro on the 3 in 1 is called a "rate gyro", it is not a heading hold gyro.

The Axe manuals are online and can be downloaded from the Helimax site.

I used the C12 for a tail motor esc and it worked ok.  But the price is too high.

Check out the   TGY-20A  20 amp brushed esc from Hobby King.  Under $10 before shipping.

Happy flying!

So what does the stack gyro control if not the tail rotor?

Cheers

The stock gyro does control the tail rotor
