Bought the AH-1J Sea Cobra....help.
 

I recently purchased Heli-Max's SeaCobra and thus finally graduated to a 4 channel helicopter from a 3 and 1 channel.

I followed the directions for setup and the manual as best as I could, and after the initial set up, placed the copter down so the tail was facing me, and started it up....

Instantly the helicopter spun around as if it became one giant helicopter blade and no matter how I attempted to adust the trim, the helicopter wouldn't stop this rotation.

Now I am sorry if this sounds repetitive here or somehow newbish (new word?), but I have no clue what to do at this point, and would seriously welcome someone's input as to how to:

a. Troubleshoot
b. Adjust
c. Teach me or guide me to the best possible area by which I can learn about what to do further.

Initially I was told by my hobbyshop clerk that this particular helicopter should have come out of the box pretty true and all it would need is some basic triming to get it into true....Boy was this NOTthe case.

You might have a defective tail motor or 4-in-1 or bad connection. Spinning like a top usually means no tail control, not just out of trim but no control at all.

Is the tail rotor spinning? Use the throttle to get the main rotor spinning a bit, then move the rudder back and forth. In one direction the tail should speed up and in the other direction it should slow down and even stop at the max. You could also check to make sure the tail motor is fully connected to the 4-in-1.

These are pretty basic helis, not a lot of tweaking you can do. Problem like that is probably a defect I would think.

Believe it or not I re-packed the entire piece and drove back to my hobby shop, thinking that there had to be a deficiency within the helicopter, as the trim adjustment couldn&rsquo;t possibly be the answer. Wouldn&rsquo;t you know that the owner had the very same theory about the cause of this problem as you posted here (like minds? :).

I have since allowed for an exchange on Friday and will be back in the air in no time.
