I thought about getting a shuttle plus 2 as my first nitro helicopter after having 3 electric helicopters and I found a deal at my Local Hobby Shop. The deal was the shuttle plus 2 with all the accessories and everything needed to fly it, for $1000. Is that a good deal?
Also, I have heard a lot of people saying that it is better to get a 50 sized helicopter instead of a 30 sized since you will outgrow the 30 sized helicopter very quickly.
I'm not sure if that is true or not, so I'm also not sure if I should get the 30 sized shuttle plus 2 or the 50 sized sceadu evo 50.
Has anyone ever experienced outgrowing a 30 sized helicopter very quickly?
What would anyone recommend I should get?

I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Been flying heli's since 1985. I manufacture model airplanes in the 40% range for a living. Strait to the point: A .30 heli will always be a more docile machine to start with. You won't outgrow that heli in fact, you will probably do like I did. I kept mine for more than 20-years as a back-up machine and an everyday flyer (I had one of the first Shuttle's to arive in Continental US) I used it to fly off water and to bring everywhere, especially on familly gatherings. Yes, you will find out that having two machines in the heli world is a must (I have now seven) so get that combo, learn the tricks with nitro and then, look for a .50 machine or larger. One thing is certain: I learned all of my maneuvers with my initial Shuttle and I now fly mainly Evo .50 but that Shuttle is still in flying condition and I can still get some parts for it in Montreal, 10-minutes from me.

We always come back to our trainers, even in airplanes. Rule of thumbs!

So you are saying that it would actually be a good idea to buy the shuttle plus 2 and that I won't outgrow it. Ok then, I guess I'll buy the shuttle to start out with, but I'm still not sure if the complete combo package of the shuttle plus 2 for $1000 at my local hobby shop is worth it. Do you think it is a good deal?

The package comes with a the shuttle plus 2 kit, a Gyro GWS PG 03, the RD 6000 sport radio with the servos, receiver, batteries and chargers, an O.S. 37 SZ-H engine, and all the accessories needed including fuel and the stater kit, all for $1000. Also the local hobby shop checks it for you and does a first test flight for the helicopter right next to you for free.

I think it's a good deal, especially if they will flight trim it. Always better to have a more experienced pilot hover it the first time.

Just verify that gyro. I have no experience with that brand. I use the Futaba 401 with digital servo (worth the extra $$$) with my Jr radio. Super gyro and super price with that servo. Hobby shops will always swap items if they see your serious.

I called my Local Hobby Shop today and I asked them how much the complete package of the Sceadu Evo 50 costs and they said that it costs $1235. It sounds like a good deal to me since the complete package of the Shuttle Plus 2 costs $1000. Do you think it's a good deal?

I'm not familiar with the Airtronics radio and servos, do a search on line and get more radio info. As far as the gyro goes, I'd get a Futaba 401 and matching servo (Airtronics), the GWS gyro offered is very low grade.

The Evo 50 is a great heli to start with and it'll take you a very long time to out grow it. Again the package price depends on the stuff being offered. If it's the same as the Shuttle, again, I'd at least get a better gyro.

I also am not familiar with the Airtronic gear but do get the Futaba 401 with digital servo (combo) and radio gear: Find a place where you can get service for it. Not so that they break but it helps to be able to ask questions and they can help out.

Thanks a lot for both of your suggestions, but before I buy the Futuba 401 and some digital servos, I'm going to ask my Local Hobby Shop what electronics come with it.
