RE: savage xl or x4.6
The X4.6. The XL is great and all, but the number of unreasonable engine issues the XL has shown over the last couple years in addition to the fact that it's a SIGNIFICANT price jump over the X4.6 for what ThunderbirdJunkie feels is unnecessary equipment (extended chassis, longer axles for width, etc) just seems a little excessive.
The X4.6 is a fine truck with a good drivetrain and one of the best RTR mills in monster trucks.
Somebody will undoubtedly disagree, but that's ok[&:]

Buy both, that's what I did.... TBJ is correct on the engines. The XL has the three speed, a stronger steering servo, the hump battery pack, a much stronger engine mounting plate, is much more stable in a lot of places.
Like TBJ said, the X is a fine machine. An X with XL plates and offset wheels is pretty close to an XL in dimensions. You just have to decide what is important to you. The old axle issues are gone with the XL, but I guess the Flux guys are breaking those too now.
There is a whole lot of fun to be had with either truck. Enjoy! Glen

I don't have one, but I would say the XL because it comes stock with a three speed tranmission, plus its got a way bigger engine. But the transmission can be installed for 90 bucks onto the X, and that should even the spedometer out a little.

I would say they are about the same for durability. The diff's are probably the weekest part on both. Hpi has a bullit proof set now that will leave you with no problems. I have twised a few axle shafts before. I now run HD Flux drive cups, axle's and axle shafts. They are the same axle shafts as the xl only the narrower flux / f4.6 width.
I like my x and do not plan on converting it to a xl. I like the smaller more agile feel of the x. I dont do wot passes back and fourth on the pavement. I like to mess around doing wheelies, back flips and stuff.

i have that truggy and i really like it but it has a habit of snapping the rear shafts that the wheels sit onto after an awkward landing but its only seriously a 2 minute fix undo 1 set screw and its off, that too would be a good choice real easy to work on and of course the f4.6 engine as standard. i just put my k5.9 out of my xl in my truggy 2nite am looking forward to see how it will perform as soon as its not raining (if it will)

i got the truggy out 2day with the 5.9 and an 086 pipe in it i went up 2 teeth on the clutch bell to a 17t and wow its an absoulute animal with that engine in it and obviously a good bit faster so it is a good engine in this platform but no doubt the engine will destroy itself cause every other 5.9 (3 or 4) i had has
