Default Savage XL 52T spur and 16T bell doesn't fit??

Last night Iput in a new 52T spur and 16T bell in my Sav XL and it's an extremely tight fight, gears rubbing, no play at all. That can't be right! I thought that was the stock configuration so it should fit. Shouldn't it? What do you guys think?

I have used a screwdriver or awl to pry on the engine mount through the bottom of the engine plate to get proper mesh. Glen

Not exactly sure what you mean Bud. You mean, while the engine mount's installed, you stick the screwdriver up thru one of the open sections on the engine plate and pry on which part of the mount??

I have recently put the same combo on my XL, had to dremel engine mounts just a little.....I do like the removal of material form the engine mount....If I had to do it today again, I'd try that.

Yes, I just push the mount tight and hold it while I tighten the screws. I have Dremeled out a couple, but I am lazy. Seems like it is the worst when both gears and all the bearings are new.

what engine are you running? cause when i first fitted my lrp in it was too tight cause of the wider pull start but some carefull filing and bending sorted that right out

It's an LRP .30. Well, I kinda gave up and put a plastic 47T spur on thatI had laying around with the 16T bell. Ihad to adjust the linkage but that was it. Of course Istripped the spur after runningabout 6 tanks this past weekend. Ishould've adjusted the mesh a little tighter but oh well. Thanks for the suggestions guys, appreciate it.

Next time I know better now when both gears and bearings are new, drop a tooth on the bell, seems to be the easiest fix.
