Default Savage FLUX motor decision...

I soon will be buying a new motor for my FLUX. Its a converted Savage 25 thats just about everthing replaced on it, that a flux has. Im trying to decide between a Leopard 2150kv on 4s or a Leopard 2000kv on 6s. I want fast but controllable, Im just not sure if 4s is fast enough... I have a LOSI JRX-S PRO that been gps'd over 105mph and i know a Savage cant do that, just letting you know what kind of speed i like. The car will be ran hard offroad not really jumped, manly running it up and down the street in front of my house.

The big questions is do people prefer Higher(2150KV) on 4s or Lower(2000KV) on 6s... I know gearing also plays a big part and tires. I own Proline Big Joes, Bow Ties and Road Rage tires and decent assortment of gears.

well i am going to guess and say with these "leopard" systems, the 2150kv can only handle 4s and the 2000kv can handle 6s. if you go with the 2150 on 4s, the motor is capable of giving you 31,820 rpm. where as the 2000kv on 6s will give you 44400 rpm, and producing more torque at the same time. hands down the 2000kv system is better, on 6s. example the 2200kv systems in the flux hp are capable of 48840 rpm. they are boss! the new flux 2350 is actually faster than the flux hp if both trucks are burning 4s, but the 2350 motor is not able to run on 6s (or the esc cant handle it) but the hp can . basically kv number, means the motor will produce that many rpm/volt. the lower the kv, more torque but less top speed. -scott.

If you havent seen the Leopard motors before, there basically rebadged Castles at half the price. There 4 pole motors and every bit as good as the castle ones.

castle is having a major sale on some monster motors ($60 for a genuine castle motor). http://www.castlecreations.com/promo...clearance.html
If I were in the market for a big motor, I'd hit that up in a big way.

I love you so much for telling me about this, even more because there headquaters is only a couple miles from me. I may have to go pay them a visit for a super special deal. To bad they dont come with a warranty. Also they dont have the deal on the 2200kv the highest is the 1800kv. Still not a bad deal on the Castle motors.

This is the stock Flux 2200kv motor on 6s Turnigy nano techs with 18/44 gearing on my Flux. Needless to say, waaaay to much damn power and to much damage to the truck as result, so i'm going back to 4s

Even in the current world of rebadging everything under the sun and claiming it's unique, ThunderbirdJunkie has to call BS on this. Castle has proprietary stuff that IF it were to be sold under another name the manufacturer would lose a LOT of business REAL quick.

One reason why i want to go 4s is because i bought to weak of batteries 3S lipos with a 20C rating. Im planning on getting Zippy 2S 5-4000mah 40c's and so i can use them in my TC

well hpi recommends a minimum of 25c at 4000mah or a minimum of 30c for 3500mah. i am running 20c, 5000mah . which in theory should produce the same burst amps as 25c, 4000mah pach (100 amps) . now some guys on here, are saying that the mmm requires a minmum of 125 amps and they are probably right. me personally cant seem to drive this truck (flux hp) wide open on 6s so i should be ok. but you gotta love that power!!!-scott

WOW, just got back from CastleCreation and man they put a smile on my face from ear to ear. Best support in the world!!!!!! I ended up getting there 1518 1Y 1800KV, hopefully i can just offset the difference in speed with a little gearing. Thanks for showing me that link Brainanator... Im in your debt now =)

In my .21 I converted to a flux I run 4S on a 2000 kv HW combo and that sucker still will flip if I'm not careful. But its pretty controllable, and its close to my savage X in the speed departments. I also am running a 18/43 gearing with the hotbodies savage wheels/rims they had awhile back for $5 a set(couldn't get a bigger pinion in so I figured tires with a bigger diameter would work, which they did a bang up job on ).

I had a 2200 NEU in it originally and it was uncontrollable geared as low as I could get it. I completely destroyed a brand new body and part of my roll bar on 4S with the 2200 within minutes.

Alright as probaly some of you knew and i had a feeling on the subject of mounting the BEAST of a motor. The motor seems to be only 1mm-3mm to big for the mount. I really dont feel like dremeling the motor mount, so is there any motor mounts that will fit the FLUX mounting bracket like the FLM or some other brand?

If you have access to a shop, you can make one out of some L stock.
