Traxxas wheelie bar upgrade
Since my last post was deleted becasue i forgot you cant sell anything on the forum.... my bad(really wasnt trying to anyways). Anyhoo i had pics up of my recent upgrade to my XL. The traxxas wheelie bar, now yes there are other posts about the same thing, but ill go ahead and post my pictures on how i did it. I got the wheelie bar off ebay for like $9 shipped.
1. I took the screws out of it and removed the wheel bracket and locking bar, what ever you want to call them.......i took it apart!
2. Flip the main back piece around so it will sit flush againt the back of the bumper with the clip lookin part up top facing out.
3. I used 3 s/s screws with washers, mocked it up with my eye and drilled the first hole. Perferably right under the mounting point for the bumper piece, on both sides and finally the last one right between the X (no need for a drill bit just use machine scews)
4. Dont over tighten them because youll just push thru and lose material underneith the washers making it easy for them to wiggle out.
5. Reinstall wheel bar and locking brace.
6. Have fun

RE: Traxxas wheelie bar upgrade
The HPI bar allows the truck to wobble under tire ballooning when in a wheelie. This bar either prevents wheelies by keeping all 4 on the ground (basically the truck burns out)or allowing little ones to big wheelies, depending on what setting your on, while maintaining stability. I havent jumped with it yet, so there will come the true test of its durability. So far its totaly worth the investment and small modification. Esp with truck that loves to wheelie!
I was thinking about taking 2 smaller of the two wheels offered with the HPI bar and putting a washer on the side againt the bar and putting those on instead of the tiny traxxas wheels. Just a thought tho.

RE: Traxxas wheelie bar upgrade
I could ride a wheelie most the way across a football field with my stock bar. I like the look of this one, but I don't think it'll hold up as well, or work as well on rough stuff, like grass. Just my thoughts though Good work.

RE: Traxxas wheelie bar upgrade
Hey tib, the HPI bar sits to high up on the back bumper, so when you hit the throttle the front end comes up
and is pointing at almost a 90 degree angle, which in turn the truck likes to flip over, all i have to do is give a little less then half throttle and the darn thing flips over
i feather the gas to get it to stay on the ground. with the traxxas one it sits lower on the rear end which will help with it
popping up to high and then flipping over. (at least thats what have encountered with the HPI wheelie bar, some guys can probably control alittle better than othersi guess).

RE: Traxxas wheelie bar upgrade
might have to try this
the HPI wheelie bar on my flux forget 95% of the time it misses the bar, and ends up on the lid.
I can actually stand my truck up on it while its off seeing its like an 85 degree angle(with the biggest wheel on it)

just waitin on the new pull starter to come in. I might take out the OWB setup on my axial i just cracked in half and put it in my picco to get her back up. Im impatient!!! I would like to get a video of the bar in work with the moster picco[>:]
Also i think that this bar might not be so tough when it comes to jumping. when you do decide to jump just lower the bar then it wouldnt stick out so far.

RE: Traxxas wheelie bar upgrade
you should give one a try Neil, with one of your picco's running the bar in the lowered position, would be crazy acceleration. the \durability seems fine so far, i have had mine on for about a year, tyhe one issue with it....the pop open after a bad crash. one option is to find a setting your happy with and then ziptie it so it cant pop open. -scott

RE: Traxxas wheelie bar upgrade
Yea skillet thats a great idea, i'll do it that way, steed has a good idea about the zip tie also. i am going to try all of this
as soon as my new wheelie bar gets here, i might even buy another skid plate to do it, so i dont mess up my new one on the truck
i know, i know, i like taking care of my stuff tho. i would rather mess up a used one just incase.

I can ride a wheelie all the way down the street!! without it flipping over. that mod works great!! i did end up using the hex screws(black ones of course)with locking nuts
And it looks and performs great! Thanks again for the post skillet.
