Default 3spd mixed with 2spd parts

So i just got done taking the 2 speed idler gear and drive gear and put them on my 3 speed. It was SOOOOOO EASY. All you need is a dremel! The link below is to the thread where i found out how to do it. Its a bit confusing but after you look at a 2 speed and 3 speed apart you see what its talking about.

Ok so check it out.... The 2 speed drive gear is this one in the pic below. theres the tall collar you see sticking up on it. You have to cut it off and grind flat then turn around and gently grind flat the other side where the pin goes.

this pic is the idler gear. Basically you just pull it out if the 2 speed and flip around and drop in 3 speed. It will need to be shimmed in the side closest to the gear. Then bolt the tranny back up and your set. You now have a BP tranny. I hope this helps

Looks great man! as far as I know, the guy who came up with this mod hasn't had any issues for over a year now, he was blowing up tranny's constantly until he tried the gear swap. I may have to try it myself and see if it can handle my next project, the twin lol. Keep us updated on how you like it and how it holds up to the power.

Will do.... Im going to the parts store to gets some washers to shim the idler gear. Ill post pics of the finished product

I think this gear would be a geat addition to the tranny to replace the only plastic gear in it, but the price has me staying away for now

Well i finally got the truck started! The low end of the tranny is crazy.... the new high speed gears are pretty wicked too. Slowly pulling the throttle to max you hear all three gears very clearly. from a stop with the throttle pinned you hear the shifts. I only got one tank thru it but even with a modded picco this tranny should no doubt hold up "fingers crossed"[X(]

Ive gotten 3 tanks thu it now and tried as hard as i could to trash the tranny but she took everything i could throw at her. This mod is amazing!!! With the high speed 3rd gear the truck gets it.... it moves as if it glides across the pavement. Again everyone with a 3 speed needs to do this mod its so easy. Even if you dont have 2 speed to cannabilize the parts would cost you like $8, so worth it

Well i had quite the day today! Finally got to run for a long time which was real nice. Unfourtunatly it came to an end when my tranny blew up. This 3 speed bullet proof mod only works if all the gears are metal. So i but you can guess that the gear to blow was the only plastic gear in the tranny. The pics below show the carnage. What really amazes me is that the new high speed third gear has half a tooth missing. When the tranny went the truck was sitting there and idling. Im thinking that either the plastic gear started to shred and got a piece of plastic stuck in the H/S gear and chipped it causing the total failure of the plastic gear. I havent pulled the whole tranny out just the top off so i dont really know whats sitting at the bottom of the case. Any how if the whole tranny was metal gears instead of the 44t plastic gear i dont think this would have happend. I will be ordering the supposed titanium gear off ebay. I hope this fixes the weak link and makes it a total BP tranny. My picco has almost 6 gallons of fuel thru it and make tons of power to trash the BP tranny mod, im impressed!!!

Blew up my second modded tranny and this time its BAD[:@]

I do have the new steel 44t gear that replaces the only plastic gear left, so now its going to be an all metal tranny.

HAHA the so called BP 3 speed has its flaws. A modded picco did this. This weekend im going to run the tranny with all metal gears no plastic at all and im using lots of loctite to make sure this doesnt happen again.

What flaws would you say there are? I will be doing this sooner or later and would like your input on how to make it as good as possible. I will be running the K5.9 for awhile so i dont have to
worry about any extreem power i guess.
I will be keeping the plastic 44t gear because i would rather roast a peice of plastic then have a metal gear to chew everything up when it goes(just my theory). On my savage 25 i kept the plastic spur gear so it would take the punishment and not any of my other drive terrain. It is a quick fix and they last about a 1/2-1 gallon for me so it is worth it.
I will be watching for updates, i hope you figure it out soon.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Default RE: 3spd mixed with 2spd parts

The first tranny blew up because one of the screws on the 44t plastic gear came out. There wasnt alot of damage to the first one and i have already repaired it. The new steel gear i got for $26, this weekend i will be running the newer version of this mod with all metal gearz and see how it performes.
The second tranny blew from what i can tell because the 2 speed idler gear was cracked from the first blow out from the mod. I took the middle gears and top gears and swapped them into the bad tranny to save time. As you can see from the pics it caused a total distruction of the entire tranny. Every gear but one has to be replaced.

If you plan on using the k5.9 for awhile then you will have no issues with this mod. Even a stock picco wont do what my modded picco did. Just remember that the tranny needs to be properly shimmed.

S/N: the guy who came up with this idea has ran the same tranny for over a year now. Not to say my motor is better than his but damn look what she did hehe[X(]

This is all R&D here with this mod, as far as i know im the second person to try it, as far as i know.
