I prefer Spektrum. Look at the DX2 or DX3. I would go with the DX3. These will be well within your price range. I would recomend a buy it now on ebay. Your servos will work with the Spektrum receiver. But if you are just looking to upgrade your servos you will have money left over.

I <3 my DX3S. I have a receiver for all three of my RC vehicles, and it's nice just selecting the vehicle you wanna control w/ the transmitter and all good to go.

Airtronics MX SPort is a great bang for the buck. I've also had pretty good luck with Spektrum in the past, dunno whats up with the haters, I blame user error

Yea been running my dx3s on my 2 nitro vehicles and on my 5t,
never had so much as a glitch at any range,
the dx3s is a good radio with an easy to use menu setup.

i'm also thinking of going 2.4ghz, i was looking at a airtronics mt-4, i have good experience with airtronics since i own a mx-3 (fm version).
not hating here, just that i have also heard that the spektrum has low range in comparison to futaba. thats the only thing holding me back from purchasing from them. has anyone tested the maximum range of their dx3s?

I like the cheap hongkong radio systems..... $20 for a 2.4ghz featureless radio, or like $50 for a 3 channel with lots of features.
Of course the spektrums are pretty sweet....

RE: goin to 2.4ghz help need
I had a Spektrum DX3S and didn't like it. The range was usable but not great, and there were some issues with glitching in the presence of other sources of high frequency radio waves. I ended up selling it at a significant loss.
I then purchased a Futaba 3PM, and it has been a very reliable system. Exceptional range (Tested to 400m with no issues) and no glitching whatsoever. The only disadvantage is the requirement for 8 transmitter batteries, but as the higher powered radio transformer is very likely responsible for the increased range, this is more of a nitpick. The lack of telemetry may be seen as a problem for some, but I found it to be more of a gimmick than a useful feature.
Personally, if I were in your shoes, I'd skip the Spektrum and go right to the Futaba.

RE: goin to 2.4ghz help need
I have had nothing but great experiences with Spectrum and its the only radios i use. For my RC cars and RC planes.
I have been using the DX3s for the last 3-4 years and have had great luck with it. have spectrum receivers in all my RC cars/trucks so recently when i was on the market for a new radio, the clear choice for me was another Spektrum. I ended up with the DX3R and its another winner IMO.
I would easily recommend them and will be using Spektrum myself for years to come. Great radios!
