Default Hpi Savage xs Flux Esc burned up?

Just bought a NIB Hpi Savage xs Flux. I put an 11.1 2200 mah 3S 30C Lipo Battery in it and ran it around the yard for about a minute and the ESC Burned up!! Just a big stinky hot white cloud of smoke and the battery was extremely hot. Any ideas on why this may have happened? I checked the manual and towerhobbies specs and i saw no reason why i couldnt run these batts in it. Please help if you can it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

Yep, you ran it on 3s in the grass. I personally would get a battery with a "MAH" of at least 5000. Also call HPI and they will replace it for you.

Yeah thats exactly what i did. I didnt think the Mah mattered? Other that the capacity and how long you can run it.. I will call them for sure and hopefully they will replace it. Was i wrong using this battery? Everything i read told me that it was ok..Thanks for the reply also.

It is better to use 2s for bashing and 3s for pavement speed runs also you need to adjust your gearing for 3s.

It seems like the ESC should hold up whether your on grass or pavement if you ask me. Regardless of 2S or 3S It seems the ESC cant handle the amperage a 3S puts out. I would prefer to be able to do Grass and pavement as my driveway is 200 ft long. Seems as if they designed a bad ESC IMO. Is the replacement they send any better??

You would think it would but the ESC going up in smoke is a come problem with running 3s and sometimes even on 2s it goes puff... I am not sure about the replacement. My son and I both have first generation (we got them the week they were released) XS's and haven't had any issues with our ESC's.

Iown one havent had any esc problems (yet). Iwould really go with a higher c rating also Irun 40c and 50c, never ran a 3s either just because Iwas afraid that would happen. Call HPIthey will replace it for you. They gave great customer service.
