70+mph Savage Speed
Finally crossed 70mph today! Gearing is 20/28t

At 72+ its above 28500rpm, the problem isnt the rpm its the street im using, its to short. I need at least a solid 900-1000ft area to run and we'll see higher numbers. Right now im just starting to reach 900ft. Everytime i took the truck out further and further i went faster and faster. Motor is not maxed out yet. Clutch and motor have almost 2 gallons on them, and its the $15 integy 7075 kit lol. Gotta love the power of Werks 30% fuel!

Holy Poop 1100 feet LOL....where I am from the longest clean strip I can find is 300 feet......Our climate causes the ground to heave and buckle so much its impossible to get any more then a clean 300 feet..........
Werks fuel is without question the best of the main brands...

Raw power hehe im not worried about it, kinda cool honestly. All in the name of fun and awesomeness. The 72mph runs were done with the all metal steel geared BP 3spd. Trying to tame an ERCM picco is proving to be quite the challenge.

I think it can still be considered bullet proof for us mere mortals running near stock motors!
Unless you have fully modded Picco .28 and running extreme speeds i think the BP tranny mods really are BP!
I bet the main problem in the gearbox is now RPM as oppose to actual power.
With those gear ratios the torque running through the gearbox will be much less than stock gear ratios.
Plus if you consider how light LL's speed struck is compared to most Savages out there then the torque loads on the gearbox will be lowered even more.
I think this could be an RPM issue now for the gears its just not designed to spin that fast!
Next step to keep the transmission together is machined steel gears i reckon.
Then it should be REALLY bullet proof.

Congrats on the 70+ !!! Too bad about the dang gear box though...
Question...what is the gear box case made of? Hard to tell by the pics...wondering if it's plastic? If so, it might be the case distorting, allowing the shafts to deflect just slightly, that caused the mangled gears?

It's made of plastic, the issue here is raw power and constantly slammin 3rd with insane gear rpm. I'd say more than double or triple what they were made intended for. But blowin crap up is the fun part

Right now my goal is to pass 75mph. I'm getting close to *****g the current setup out but I have a few more tricks up my sleeve to push for more when I do max. Watch my videos, notice I pull up an incline. I found a super long flat road the other day, I should be able to gain at least another 1-2mph easy by not having to go up hill. My current gearing is 20/28t. By going to a 27t spur I should be able to pass 75. Hopefully I can do it with the 28t. When I do finally max the single motor setup out. Twin ERCM Piccos will go for 100mph!

It's interesting how opinions and ideas have changed over the course of 8 months, mine have immensely changed and really opened my eyes. Nitro setup correctly is capable of surprising things. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I could have passed 60 much less 70mph. Goes to show a little perseverance and a lot of help can make amazing things happen.

Well if I can make a run of a 1000feet I should no doubt pass 75. What's another 320 feet lol.
The reason it takes such a long distance to reach upper rpm is the insanely huge gearing. No one has ran this tall before on the savage. Hell I had no idea I was pushin 800+ feet lol. It's not the distance but the mph that matters to me.

The thing I was thinking about when I asked about the case material...is when those relatively heavy steel gears get whizzin around in there, they are trying to push each other apart. The torque is trying to force the gears / shafts away from each other...and if the plastic case is not strong enough, it will allow deflection, and accelerated gear wear, and / or failure...seen it happen in 1:1 (full size, automobile )transmissions.
I don't see a reason why STEEL gears should fail...unless there's a defect in them...or maybe an imbalance?
It doesn't take much...if the bearing bosses don't hold the bearings securely enough under high load...or a bearing has some slop in it...or both...that would allow mis-alignment between the gears...etc. etc.
Who is it that makes an Alum. gear case for Savages? Will it accept the 3 speed gears?

Hi Skillet. Congrats again on continuing to increase your speed. I have really enjoyed keeping up with your progress. Proptop might have something there. You saw how much better the tranny worked when you went to the all metal gears. Maybe a metal tranny case will solve the new problem. Keep up the good work. I am still looking forward to the twin engine project.

Managed to squeeze some more mph out today. I did hit 72.9mph with 20/28t then switched to 20/27t and pulled 73.1mph. There is more left

So how much does the style of body play into this? i.e. if you were to run it with the body off what speeds could you hit.? Be interested in the down-force variable here.
p.s. Find one of your neighbors and ask "do you want to see something cool?" Then let him film a run. It would really drive home the experience vs the static view of the camera. ;-)

Yeah I hear ya, I could ask my wife but then my 2 yr old son would get in the way haha. I do have a second camera but I didnt set it up today (obviously) but I need to figure out how to plug the second video into the main video to give a better shot. Also the perception of speed is slower the higher the camera sits. Ill figure something out

Man that Ti gear is really chewed up. I pulled mine out the other day and I dont have much longer with it. I am gonna swap it out with a steel gear.
I doubt it will matter with the grenade problem, but are you going to go with steel on that hear next time? I suppose your wanting the overall weight reduction of the truck with the titanium. I know one thing, titanium is expensive!
