XL conversion
Going to put XL conversion chassis on my 4.6. Thinking about going to 3 speed. I will be putting a picco .28 in it also. How are people liking the 3 speed? Is it durable in factory form?

Depending on your driving style, the 3-speed gears may explode on you with that motor. Many people have had that issue with the 3-speed/picco combo as some of the gears are thinner and made of a cheaply made metal.
I would personally convert to XL width for added stability, opposed to XL width...or just do both.
