Default Which Hpi truck have I got?

Hi guys,

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me, I have just bought second hand a RC car for myself and my daughter to mess about with, we have bought it as a spares or repairs, and hope to breath some life back into it, I was told it was a HPI Savage X 4.6 but really i need this confirming and if so what version so I can buy new parts.

I think this first thing I need to buy is a pull starter for it.

how can I tell which model it is?

Looks to be a Savage X by the chassis plates but, I thought the X came with 4 shocks instead of 8. Go look at the chassis plates where they bolt to the front or rear differential bulk head. The very front (or rear) bolt, is it bolted on top hole or bottom hole? Also looks like your brake lever is missing and they have some sort of throttle linkage hooked up, looks like a 4 way servo horn?

Okay, so it is an X which is good. Now the brake is totally missing. Do yourself a favor, go to HPI.com and print up a Savage X manual if you don't have one. This way you will know exact part numbers for what you need. Get rid of those steel disk brakes and get the red fiber dual disk that came with it. Looks like the brake lever is missing too. That weird servo horn should go to the original one to start with. And the clutch bell and spur gears look to be worn out. The hose clamp on the exhaust is a nice touch but really only need two zip ties. If you are on Facebook, join HPI Savage Central and you will get way more help from a bunch of very knowledgeable people!!!

Hi thanks for that, I have downloaded the Manual cheers, and I have ordered all the brake parts and throttle assembly that I think are not stock (i think), I have requested to join the Facebook page a few days ago but I have not been added to the group yet? anyway thanks for the advice, I hope to sort of get it running and then replace any worn parts like the clutch, I want to put a pull start and it looks like it has the one way bearing on it, do you know which pull start I need? thanks again.

What you have there is a hpi savage xss,
this truck comes with all metal diffs,
k4.6 engine and hpi dirtbonz tires,
the pullstart you need to be looking at is http://www.ebay.com/itm/Latest-HPI-1...item27ee4f4d93
As for brakes you should upgrade from the metal disc brakes to the
red fibreglass type,
these are the best brakes out of the lot,
this kit comes with the larger brake disc hex and everything to conver to savage xl type brakes,

After looking at the pics I would strongly advise you do a complete tear down and rebuild. Its in pretty bad shape and problems could be hiding anywhere. Only part I wouldn't touch is the tranny and engine, unless they give you trouble later on. Doing this will allow you to get to know the truck inside and out as well at clean everything up.

Did you do some cleaning on the truck?
Im asking because the engine is clean,to have been ran that much.Usually the header would be caked
with burnt fuel residue,an theres harley no scratches all over the chassy.

That sucker looks like it was barely ran due to how the tires have almost no wear, and like cbaker said it has minimal scratching.

Right I ordered parts as recommended, got the brake now mounted, however the pull start doesn't fit?? I assume it is something to do with this part as this is a 12mm end and the pull starter I have ordered is smaller have I got the wrong pull starter or is this part a third party add on which i need to replace?

thanks
