Default Jeesh! I broke It Already!!(Update)

Brand new Savage 25 RTR.
Run about 2 tanks through it.
I'm guessing the one-way bearing is shot. The Rotstart will turn the motor over if the glow plug is out, but under compression the rotostart just spins.
Pulled the motor, took off the rotostart assembly. The bearing looks ok, but I guess that doesn't reall mean anything.
Anything else I can check?
Thanks,
RR

Look at the bearing real close. I had one last week that cracked the black case of the bearing. It will crack long ways like from the front of the motor to the back dead center of one of the flat spots......look real close!

Use aluminum foil and red loctite to get the bearing tied again. Put aluminun foil between the sleeve and the sprocket to. I broke mine and fix it that way and i got a other 8 tank of gas so far.

i think there has to be a better way than these one way bearings.... i got 2 tanks threw my hyper 8 port, and BAM! lost my one way.... isn't there another way these engine manufactures can do it??

Of course hes not mcguyver, he can make real parachutes from tents in 5 mins and powerful exposives from a rag, a bambo chute and swamp gas! aluminum foil is perfect to use in an engine, i use aluminum foil tape to make high compression gaskets fro my gokart motors, and they hold up longer than real gaskets

Savage SS same problem. You are lucky you made it through two tanks. I only got through the initial break in tank. I wonder if the roto-start may cause too much stress on the one way bearing.

I've went through 2 already with my ss and roto start. If I had it to do over I'd sell the roto and put the pull start back on.

Just make sure when you start it to loosen the glow plug about 1/4 turn out. You'll get a good feel for how loose to leave it. That will take some tension off but I still think thats not enough to solve the problem.

When my engine is still warm I stand the truck on it's back bumper so the one way bearings drain. It works pretty good.

Went down to the LHS and they said the one-ways are on backorder[:@]!
I have no problem with stuff breaking, it's all part of this hobby. I do expect to be able to get parts though!
So I call HPI(took about 20 min to get through)spoke to a guy named Fred. Well Fred said he'd grab me a one-way off the assembly line and a couple extras if he could.
Thanks Fred!
I feel; better now

...You could use a owb off a Traxxas motor or a AE or a Force or some Kyosho..... they all use a 6mm shaft and hex.

But heck...if HPI is gonna send ya few... it must be xmas

all ofna pull starts and ofna one way bearing fit the hpi 25 and 21
the force ofna engines are the same exact engines anyway.

i went through 2 one ways on my savage SS, with a pull start even...

I've been through several...

The Traxxas 4011 fits, as well as an ofna model. The ofna is only $9.95, so that's the one I ended up with.

I now use the rotostart shaft in a Dewalt portable drill, clutch set on 3. It takes a bit more time to prime, due to the slower rpm of the drill. However, no broken one-ways since.

Is it that the roto start has too many RPM's and TOO much torque? Is that why alot of people are destroying these bearings?

I have not gotten my Savage 25 yet and I have never had a Real Rc Car. What is this bearing that you are talking about? Is there a Industrial Bearing that will hold up better?

I think it's a combination of the rotostart, the serious compression of the .25 motor, and the quickness of compression locking.

I wouldn't let it scare you out of the Savage, as there are a number of different solutions, any one of which is effective:

1) Always loosen the glow plug before starting

2) Use a cordless drill (with reverse and clutch)

3) Use less batteries in the rotostart

4) Use the pull-start

All of these worked for me; I settled on #2 for a long-term solution.

So instead of the 3300 Mah Pack I should just use a 1500 Mah Sport Pack?
Or do you mean using 5 Cell instead of a normal 6 Cell?

Just a thought, but maybe if you guys didn't flood the engine, your one way's wouldn't be cracking. From every post on every forum I've read, that seems to me to be the problem. Some will admit it, and some wont. I personally have the roto on my .26 Sav and the 24.7 on my Maxx, and have absolutely no problems. I never loosen any plug and I use the starter that came with the roto. You just gotta learn how to prime your engine without flooding the hell out of it. Heres what I do....Never , ever use the primer on the tank if it still has it for one. I put my glow starter on, insert the starter bone, Give it a push of the button with my finger over the exhaust, then when it sounds like it wants to start, Take your finger off the exhaust, give it one more push of the button, and she should fire right up. Both my trucks start like this every single time, without fail. That is the best method of priming, with or without the roto. Flooding the engine causes more starting problems than anything I have seen.

Don't mean to be a d%$k, but it gets kinda old seeing people try to bash the manufacturers, or the parts for something they caused and wont admit.

i'm thinkin bout gettin a 25 rtr and if during break in i loosen the plug every time i start it up and use the pull start, should i nott crack any one ways? and after break in, is it fine to use the roto start? or would it still crack one ways?

I had the Dirt Demon and the tune was always dead on the money, yet one way bearing blew out 3 times. The problem is that roto start spins 20 times harder than a pull start its too much torque on the bearing. I would go to a pull start.

No way man. Put that roto on and be happy. You'll love yourself for it. As long as you take your time and dont flood the engine, you'll have no problems with one ways or anything else. Theres no tellin how many starts I have on both my engines with no problems at all. I got a short vid on here that has a rotostart demo at the beginning that shows just how simple it is. Check it out.[8D]

Elway, you're absolutely correct that I'm flooding it.
I'm still breaking it in, and the settings are pretty rich.
I'm new to the nitro motors and I don't realize it's hydro locking untill it's too late.
I'm not sure where you saw someone bashing the Savage. I wasn't pi$$ed that I broke the part, I was angry that I couldn't get a replacement bearing.
I also think my glow plug was contributing to the problem. It wasn't glowing red all the way to the tip. I picked up a couple new ones but haven't tried them yet.
I'll try your starting method.
Thanks,
RR
