Default WHAT ARE THE BEST PERFORMANCE/HOP UPS FOR THE SAVAGE SS/25?

I have just got a new Savage SS. First time with a truck, had lots of cars but no trucks, so what is the right stuff to get?
Is the S-25 a good enough engine? Does the plastic hold up? Is the suspension good enough? And what are the best sort of hop ups and mods? Lots of people say motor saver air filter, spider gear diff mod, better pipe, what else?
cheers

DEFINITLY get a motor saver air filter, then you should be fine. if you want to upgrade parts, you should look at alluminum bellcranks (or even just an alluminum center link), a new clutch might be needed, if you want (3 or 4 shoe), and get some spare spur gears (just in case). i only upgrade parts if i break them and i havent broken enything on my savage that is unfixable (by me), so my truck doesnt really hae much alluminum on it.

id say get the motor saver air filter, spyder gear diff mod, maybe some better tires if you want them because they improve handling. the plastic does hold well and the suspension is good. the motor is alittle weak during break-in but it will become powerful at about the 7th tank or so. i wanted more power than the S-25 but i just love having so much power. the savage was built to not wheelie all the time but have better handling.

motorsaver is a MUST!
if you have the RTR savage, get a exhaust pipe too... the best one out there is the TSAIS custom pipe.
upgrade your steering servo to Hitec-645MG.
buy ballons to waterproof the servos.
get a centerskid plate to make ur savage clean
reverse module is a must if you go bashing around.. * reverse is fun *
upgrade the brake too..to dual brake disk
stock wheel is 6", you can upgrade it to 7" or 8"
the plastic arms are very durable. but i still got the aluminium arms bcoz they are bling!
you should buy at least 2 spur gears in case u strip it. * it strips easily*
also.. FAILSAFE IS ESSENTIAL!

What engine would you up grade to? And would you recommend alluminium front + rear bumpers? I seen a few and they look mint, but the cash is it worth while. Also just wondering have you seen any lights for the Savage? Now that would be mintage![8D]
cheers

i will never buy the aluminium bumper... it you hit your savage to a wall, the chassis might bend..
I still prefer a flexible bumper to absorb the impact.

engine: Picco or Wasp

yea, i wouldnt get an aluminum bumper. you can get lights for your car at www.towerhobbies.com and i would suggest getting like the Picco .26 or the Team Orion Wasp. they are both the same engine though. they just look different as in colors.

Thanks for that site, looks good. On the engines again I have heard with the Picco .26 you can up grade it and make it from 2.7hp to 2.9hp, is this true and where can you get it and costs? And would you upgrade the pipe on the Sav ss?

i actually have the pipe for the savage SS on my savage 25. i have not seen upgrades for those engines to increase power but i may be wrong. and you can get either engine at www.towerhobbies.com and their cost are around $180 USD. ive got the sirio .27XL race engine which makes 3.1 hp. for more power you can have a motor saver air filter, better clutch like an aluminum 3 shoe or aluminum 4 shoe. clutches do not add HP, but they do add accel. and if you wanted to add more power, you could buy a turbo button to put on your engine and you will get like 15% more power. im not sure if that engine is already turbo or needs a button to become turbo so please someone correct me if im wrong.

supa sav-
there is a company called 'werks picco' or something like that and they made a picco .26 engine with 2.9 hp @33,000 rpms. this engine is made for heavy off-road action because it has such high horsepower at such low rpms. this also means that the engine wont make your savage go as fast as it would with a regular ofna picco 26 (2.7 hp at 38,000 rpms). i would stick with the ofna picco, it has great power, great top end speed, and it is cheaper than the werks picco. go to www.stormerhobbies.com , they have the lowest price and they are a GREAT company.

Yer i reckon ill stick with the picco .26. What do you think the best gear combo is on the savage? I like to have as much acceleration as possible but still have a reasoniable top speed, whats the best combo for that?
cheers

The only alluminium parts that I would even think about putting on my Savage are, Tank guard, centre skid, bulk heads and gearbox housings. Leave the rest, the plastic on these beasts is perfect, it only breaks when IT needs to, to stop something else busting.

Do the MP servo saver mod, the throttle linkage mod, get a motor saver or HPI high performance filter and get a high torque servo for the steering. That should be plenty to keep her running for a good while.

Oh BTW, Spur gears DO NOT strip easily! Get the mesh right using a peice of paper and tighten the spur down all the way then back it off a 1/4 turn. I have 2 gallons through my first spur with no wear at all!!!!!

Default Tank guard on Tower

Does anyone know where to look on tower hobbies for a fuel tank guard? I can't find em anywhere in chassis parts or fuel tanks and accessories

ok
supa_sav u sound like u wanna start racin
cause u r looin for performance parts
first off, keep alot of the plastic parts because it is lighter then the aliminium, maybe change the TVP's to carbon fibre 1's
2nd get a new engine for racin the wasp or picco would do ok, but if u wanna kick some real @rse get a sirio .27 racer or the new RB .28 thats comin out (SOON)
ASAP after u get a new engine a motor saver air filter will be perfect then get a new aliminium coolin head and motor mount from [link]http://www.novarcproducts.com[/link]
and some of the other stuff people have said eg. Hitec-645MG for the steerin and an OFNA servo saver

i would do the 4 spyder gear mod. the pipe on the SS is a tuned pipe and the wheels need some stiffer foams.

i like my big joes also. they have better performance than the stock tires and they have some great traction! the jumbo kongs are a no-no because they will mess up your drivetrain and can harm it.

Engine wise, the sirio .27 race like viza or the truckzilla, wouldnt it perform way better coz its 4.8 horse power (but only 23,000rpm) but gear it up heaps and it would be faster than any engine. I must be missing sumthing coz practically no1 buys it, wot are the highs and lows of both engines? cheers
