Let me guess they are leaking right where they came off of the parts tree? Just tried to chane the shock oil in mine and I found that 6 of mine were bad. all of them were leaking from the same spot. I tried to use 35 wt but it is just too thick for the stockers and caused the seams to start leaking. I ordered some new ones and hopefully they will withstand some 15 wt.

With the Integy shocks I think you can just use the stock shock shafts in them. Someone else might know for sure.

I would use something thinner than 30 Wt (like 10 or 15) or get some alum ones that will handle the pressure.

most of them seem to handle the pressure fine [:-]
i guess ill just run the 30 wt untill they pop.
and then get some aluminum shocks.

I run 45 in mine with no problems. And these are the original Savage 21 shock bodies. And they are around a few years old.

After 2 gallons of fuel, I changed my shock fluid to 40wt and they are working great!
Better than I ever expected.

May be I just got a bad lot. I just replaced all of mine and I'm using 15 wt and I like the way it handles now and they are holding up so far. Its just a little bit more prone to rollovers.

I have the cheepo $70 hot bodies and they are junk. Broke one first tank of fuel on a light cartwheel. The bottom end of them are really cheep. I ended up pulling the ends off of my stock because they were much better

i had one leak from the sprue connection area ( the first one i did ) then i read the instructions and closely looked at the diagram... the reason was that i filled the shock with oil while the damper was fully extended !! instead of fully compressed like it should have been. if you think about it?? if you fill the shock body full of oil extended and screw the top on, for the rod to be pushed into the body the shock oil would have to compress for the volume of the rod. i don't think oil is compressable. i've seen a truck where the guy had done all his shocks the wrong way and he could not understand why mine could bottom out and he only had half the travel he should. another point is dont snap/twist the body from the sprue, cut it off well clear and file down the remaing stub. oh yes, the SAVAGE rocks!!!

Stock shocks are the best for bashing.

I use 25wt all round and they work great. Aluminium shocks bend very easily, as they have zero 'give' in them. Plus, stockers are a damn sight cheaper to replace if they do break.

In answer to the earlier post, YES the stock shafts will pop straight into the integy shock body's, and are a lot stronger.

When rebuilding shocks / replacing oil, etc., when capping the shock and pushing the piston all the way in, how far out should the piston push itself back out? I want to make sure I am not overfilling.

Thanks,
David

i am running stock shocks with 25 wt silicone in two of my savages with no problem. i have hotbodies aluminum ones with 20 wt on my other savage and they blow. ive had no problems with the cheap stockers and to think i picked up 4 extra sets anticipating disaster. o well , nice to have around. probably have 5 gallons on the one sav, 3 or 4 on the other and 2 on the one with the h/b 's. i use one red and one black on each corner, with trinity firm inserts. great setup.

If you fill the shock up to just about a 1/4 of an inch from top with fluid and work the shaft in an out to get the air out it should not have any preasure on the shaft when you cap it. But do this procedure slowly or you will have a mess to clean up.

I fill my stockers up to the brim with the piston fully compressed, if anything slightly concaved, definately not covexed.

I haven't popped one yet!
