thrown connecting rod
I was screaming my Savage around a gravel parking lot yesterday, running through one tank, filling the second before it ran out, having a great time. Then, all of a sudden, the engine stopped really abruptly. I really thought it had thrown a rod or something. I went to start it and the one way bearing was shot. What gives? Can a one way somehow fail, locking up the engine? This HPI 2.5 has never ever just quit like that without being out of gas.
I installed a new one way (old one had fine crack in it) and the engine fired up instantly, running smooth as silk. Love this truck.

RE: thrown connecting rod
I've never heard of it but I think it might be possible if the gears in the roto start plate lock up with the 1-way. These little engines look for any excuse to stall. It all comes down to torque. If the motor didn't have enough torque to break the 1-way or whatever was locking it up, it stops. Weakest link type deal.
