Well, when you put on the dual brakes, the increased stopping power transfers the stress from your brake disc to the drive shafts and diff gears. This results in the well-known dual disc front flip effect. It has worn your front diff gears and that is the reason for the "crackling" or as in mine a grinding noise. You need to replace the gears and do the 4 spider mod to strengthen your diff. I am just waiting for mine to completely wear out before fixing it... I figure if I am buying all new geas I will destroy the ones I am going to replace. Tower has all of the parts, if you need a parts list....
For both axles:
HPI Diff case set (part# 85004)-you can also use after market aluminum ones
2 sets of OFNA Cross Pins (part#30773)
4 HPI bevel gear sets (part#86032)
Diff oil (I believe 3k in front and 5k in rear)

AS I have said before (and KAMIL I TOLD YOU the dual setup would lead to problems in time....) the 4 spider gear mod does NOTHING to fix this. The problem is pinion/ring mesh and stress, the problem isn't inside the diff, it's on the out...

I already said it.....

The 2-disc brake tears up the RING GEAR ON THE DIFF AND THE PINION, it doesn't matter if you have 2 or 4 gears inside the diff, that isn't affected; neither is it a factor.

What you need is to get yourself some shims (which no hobby shops near me seem to carry) so that you can reduce most of the play around your tranny & diff gears. A little bit of shimming should go a loooong way towards reducing wear.

if you have your brakes really keen in the way it lifts the back end when you stamp on the brakes back the brakes of. Ive seen loads go because they all do it.Ok it looks good but it has the same out come.

i will agree with Frost on this one.. it does sound logical.. i mean the stress is on the front diff.. and with the 4 spider mod.. the actual inner diff would not be harm like the outside ring gear and pinion... all the indos will eventually stripp it..
but this has not happened to me.. but then again... im not WOT and then coming to a complete stop either..
i would take alot of bad driving to strip that bad boy

i did that for 3 weeks straight, doing endos and front flips with my picco and i never even touched the diffs. they never broke or stripped or anything of that sort and i still had the 2 spider gear setup. but i did manage to bend my brake discs though. he he

i had a picco 26 in mine.. ran the ***** very hard..
i wanted to do the 4 spider to get better proformance.. when i opened both my diffs.. (the cylinder bar that holds the gears in place) was eating into the plastic of my diff..
it was just a matter of time before both diffs would of popped on me..
also.. the picco has soo much power.. the all my cups where being eatin by the dog bones.. so i had to install hd cups as well..
