Center Skidplates
Is this [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGBD9&P=7]Powerline Center Skid[/link] the exact same thing as this [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXESY1&P=7]Megatech Center Skid[/link] Which I know is the same as The GPM and Dynamite parts.
I got clued in from this old 'news'

(don't worry, its not advertising, unless you order from Hong Kong)

RE: Center Skidplates
I already got an Adrenaline Tank Guard (its mad beefy) because i found it cheap and it mounts up in 3 places like the Vertigo one. No offense... but the vertigo skidplate seems like a half-assed way to design a skidplate. I want the GPM style skid because those 4 mounting holes should help give the truck some extra lateral strength.

RE: Center Skidplates
polycarbonate is a solid form of the material your body shells are made of and in thicker material it is bullet proof(literally)

It sounds like its worth trying. If it doesn't cost you, then I'd say 100% go for it. Is it something you'd be able to have formed/bent like GPM and other skids?
If yes then do it up and take some pictures! My only concern would be that long term you'd get stress fractures around the mounting holes. Using washers wouldn't be as pretty, but the useful lifespan would go up.
blazethatish: What kind of center skid do you have? I saw a pic and it says "Proline" across the side.

i work for a plastics fabrication company as a part time sales manager and have lots of fabrication experience. yes the p/carbonate would be bent.....also solid polycarbonate is very unlikely to split with the location of the screws on the skid plate. it will not crack due to its molecular structure.
i will get one made up when i get chance and pop a pic on here, also it will cost me nothing to produce them

Speaking from experience, this is a now a no-brainer; Vertigo Performance makes the best ones. Integy was a disappointment for me (horrible mounting and they cracked over time).

yea, i get the feeling integy skids are the type of thing that you get what you pay for.
inferno15: can't wait to see 'em. Does your job mean you get to make yourself new dif cups and parts when you abuse your buggy?

RE: Center Skidplates
erm this may seem like a silly question but what kind of skid plate is this? i was a bit hasty when i bought it and threw the packaging away without really paying attention to who made it, is it any good?

RE: Center Skidplates
hello m8, i could make pretty much anything for it if i had the time, unfortunately i dont. fixed my standard fuel tank today that i cracked in the woods. wealded it back together with polypropylene welding rod and its as good as new, will keep it in the box as a spare as i bought a new one also.
keep eyes peeled for a finished centre skid plate( it will be clear so you will be able to see any possible problems underneath without taking it off....also if you want to mount neons on your truck you will be able to do it behind the plate and they will be totally safe..
when i finished it i will pop it on ebay and see what it goes for

RE: Center Skidplates
i think they mean by clear, natural aluminium and not anodized with any colour.they obviously chose to call it clear, as we all know clear ali is impossible

RE: Center Skidplates
polypropylene welding rod? I never knew they welded... plastic. I would have gone with a quick curing plastic epoxy.
i still don't really believe it.. palstic welding rods. you use something like a big soldering gun right? welding rods bring to mind images of oxyacetylene/MAPP Gas welding torches. either way, i can only imagine the epoxy putty would have been more convient out in the woods.
but then again, you know plastics for a living[sm=cool.gif]
can't wait to see your skid.
btw- do you guys make clear schedule 40/80 pvc pipes? I saw some recently and its cool as sh1t

RE: Center Skidplates
a plastic welding gun operates in the same sort of way as a hairdryer but its temp is about 250-400 degrees cent.
it has a shaped nozzle that you push different shaped welding rod through(plastic) as you push it through you have the gun nozzle aimed at the plastics your welding together. as it does it heats all the surfaces and fuses them together. welded plastics can be stronger than the actual plastic itself.
