Making a custom skidplate,questions.
I'm gonna make an aluminum skidplate for my savage but I was wondering how they usually mount.Do the plastic front and rear skidplates have to come off or do they usually bolt over those or what? I'll get some pics up of the process once I figure out what to do and if anyone has any detailed photos of how some of them mount that they could share that would be greatly appreciated.

Wow,thank you guys, thats great,I see exactly how those mount and it shouldn't be too hard. That Lexan one is cool, did you have to heat it to bend it?
I saw a pic in the savage pic thread of the whole bottom skid plate the guy got from savage-central,I'm pretty sure it goes over the plastic as well but it would involve milling out squares for the little hump in the bottom of a gearbox.I want to make one to go across the whole bottom but it might be better to replace it in thirds if it gets bent.
Thanks again guys, that was more than I expected and very helpful.

bet you will NOT break it,it will NOT crack round the screw holes, polycarbonate is not like acrylic which is brittle, this stuff is bullet proof and i mean literally.
this is only the prototype as im waiting for availability on the vaccum bed c.a.d. machine at work and they will all be cnc machine finished
thanks for the positive feedback
whats postage to the u.s on two of these and if its not too much i will send you one for your truck and one to hit with a sledgae hammer(or even steamroller if you know a roadworker)

Got it cut and bent...just not mounted yet because the screws are too short to go into the plastic after I put the plate on.I'll either go get screws or mount it another way but this is what I came up with.
I started with a piece of cardboard so I could make a pattern for the holes and drill them while the metal is flat....and I still screwed up the holes, lol.Notice the precise bends...just gotta mount it now.

Thank you Hpi_mt2
Viper...I saw that in another thread awhile ago, that is really cool with the diamond grate stuff.
I may just drill and tap 8 holes,4 front and 4 back, into the plastic when I get to work tomarrow, then I'll just put some SS flathead phillips in there.
