is it necessary? not right away, but your diff's may strip out eventually. The mod puts 4 spider gears inside your differentials instead of 2. this gives them more strengh. There however has been one documented story br a member named frost, where his diff's are still lasting, and is on his like 4th or 5th modded engine. it all depends

I upgraded mine after about 6 months but the diffs weren't the actual problem. The plastic diff cup is what actual failed.
Frost, are you still using the original diff cups or ever had any problems with them?

i think he's using the originals, and mine were fine also after about a year, i thought they went bad but it turned out to be the other two bevels in the transmission, not the differential.

I have a savage 21. when i frst got it i replaced the front diff 4 times in a month this is before i added a small washer to the drive shafts to tighten the diff no probs now and that was 4 months ago. It was also before i found out about the spider diffs.

I would say that a 4 spider mod is nessecary if you run a 26-28 Engine in your Savage. We actually use the housings of kyosho for the diffs because they are stronger biuld up then those from hpi! You can buy these fine upgrade parts in germany in a online store, these parts are really Mad and long life approved[8D] www.nitro-mods.de Here can you buy really good stuff like 8mm T6 Engine mount, hardcore brake,HD drivetrain,Xtrem Nitrodiffs and a lot more!!
