Savage Roto Start Problem
Hi all
I was trying (maybe a bit too hard) to get my 3 day old savage going last night. After a few short runs (trying to fix my poor tuning efforts earlier) the roto start just started slipping (the drill bit turns but seems to do nothing to the engine).
Is this an issue with the one way bearing? What should I be doing to fix it?

Sounds like the very common problem that most savage owners have.............the one way bearing is a bad point on these engines but if you have a look at it it may just need to be cleaned and try again as they do slip alot.
Good Luck

Yeah Darth, what Richie says. Try taking it apart and soaking the bearing in denatured alcohol or some other solvent. To tell you the truth though, that roto start is tough on one ways. I've gone back to pull starts on all my trucks.

RE: Savage Roto Start Problem
finally after about a year i had to pull out my oneway & spray it with nitro cleaner to stop slipping.I think my problem is that i recently started using trinity monster brew which has a higher oil content. Before i was using regular monster horsepower fuel & like i said its been about a year.Make sure you arent running a fuel with too much oil in it or you will have to remove more frequently..Just my opinion

DUDE here is what i did i went throught like 5 one ways and then my roto broke soo i said screw it just pay the 25 bucks for the pull start... alot more convient you dont have to carry around the roto all u have to carry is your glow plug ignitor...
Priming is easy just take the hose going to your exhaust take it off blow in it until you see gas in the fule lines going to the carborators then but back on the exhaust and pull whall la (DO NOT SUCK ON THE TUBE BLOW IF YOU SUCK GAS WILL COME INTO YOUR MOUTH I HAD IT HAPPEN DONT DO WHAT I DID REMBER BLOW INTO IT)

RE: Savage Roto Start Problem
I'm using "Hot Stuff" 15% nitro fuel (5% cast 15%syn). Pretty sure it's the best stuff my LHS stocks.
I think my real problem is that I messed with the tuning too much. I might need to get some advise at a local club on setting the needles back to a reasonable adjustment.

i can tell you your proble. Not enough nitro, wayyyyyyy to much oil. run atleast 20% nitro, and your better off imo, with a race blend, such as odonell, with about 12 % oil. That's why you have tuning problems.

Yeah, I took the advise of a couple of guys at the LHS who each say they run their savages with 15%. I'll be useing 20% next time.
