Something For You To Watch Out For.....!!!!
Hi all
This pic is from my 4 week old Savage 25 RTR.........Its not to clear to see whats wrong but........today i removed the engine to put on a new alloy clutch set-up (ofna) and found that the engine bed plate screws had come loose.
On page 33 of the manual it clearly shows that these screws should be lock set in.........but as these are under the engine its not easy to see.
I have read on this forum about one guy whos engine mount broke..........and seeing this has got me thinking that it could be a fault with these from the factory........JMO

Those screws cost me a few spur gears. Considering the load they're under, the vibration, & the heat it's not surprising that they could come loose. It's nothing to freak out over. Just locktite them & move on.

Even with the RTR kits, you need to go over every screw and nut to be sure it's tight before you run it for the first time. My RTR ate up a spur gear while breaking it in because the factory had the lash set too tight. Melted that sucker good. My girl's cousin just got an RTR and we found the clutch bell very loose on the crank. It wasn't shimmed correctly.

Heh guys. I have a RTR savage and a RTR MT2 and after i had taken each one out for its first spin i noticed some of the screws are loose. If you read the manual or watch the HPI DVD it tells you to check ALL the screws on the car (the clutch bell fell of my MT2 after 5 minutes!!) so i dont think HPI would be responsible if this caused any damage. Saying that HPI do seem quite good at giving replacement parts away so you could try it

The RTR doesn't come with a DVD(or at least mine didn't.) Also when my mount broke it was because I was being careless. It was a high stress situation. The screws held tight though. After getting over the embarassment and anguish, I was happy the mount broke and not more. I would definatly check all screws and use some thread lock.

All I have to say is Lock-tite and more Lock-tite. When in doubt use some more. I have noticed that when I got my savage in 2003 everything was pretty tight. But my friend just got his last month and I had to re-tighten almost every screw.
It's always a good idea to recheck them. Especially after a few runs.

I've never lost any of those screws but I have snapped 2 of those engine plates and 3 of the braces that hold it in place

I'm not really sure what happened to the first plate.I was cleaning my truck one day and just happened to notice it was cracked right where the engine mount screws go through. I loosened them up and the thing just fell apart. The second plate was from landing 16 foot jumps up side down on the pavement. That also took out 2 of the braces and a set of Ti. hingepins. The third brace just kinda bent and cracked. Again I didn't notice it until I was cleaning my truck.

I not only broke my motor mount but also the engine crankcase from a ten foot dirt jump and landing on the but end of the truck. I think I was at WOT and a temp near 280. Engine just stopped and I saw the carnage.
