you really shouldnt use anything but foam filter oil. I bought a 1 oz bottle of team associated foam prefilter treatment(filter oil) for 2.50 at the LHS and it will last me along time. IF you pick some up compare your filter oil to your engine oil. put some on your finger tips and let it set for a few seconds. rub your finger tips together. you will see that the filter oil has become very sticky. thats what keeps the dirt that goes into the filter stuck to the filter. instead of going through it and into your engine. BTW technically you should clean your filter after every day of racing/bashing

well, ive used regular old motor oil, on boats, cars, wee wackers, chainsaws, lawnmowers, etc etc. works fine for my needs. are you sure it's not the heat on your finger that makes the oil sticky?

good ol tranny fluid is what most of us use over here, works better than motor oil because it doesnt all go to the bottom of the filter like motor oil sometimes does....and you can get an entire quart for around 2.50

Yessir, thats what I use. $2.50, decently large bottle, and it works just as well, if not better, than the stuff motorsavers sells.

You should be using Foam filter oil, It's like it's all that expensive. Motor oil is to thin, and will run into your engine, Tranny fluid has detergents that will eat up your foam filter. In a pinch you can get filter oil from an auto parts store. Filter oil is very thick and sticky, so that it can do it's job.[8D]

I also use the team associated filter oil and it has lasted so far four months and I've used only about 1/3 of the bottle. Plus it's easier to transport, it fits in my tool box easily instead of a 1 quart bottle of motor oil or tranny fluid.

I've been checking out various air filter oils, it seems a good part of them are pure or partly Castor Oil which is/was a common part of the oil used in fuel. The castor as the desired effect and is relatively cheap.
Make sure not to use to much, you'll choke the engine...

Foam filter oil is a lot sticker then motor or trans fluid. Well worth the small price for the best stuff to keep from sucking trash in to the motor. Last a long time. It only takes a couple of drops each time then rub it in.
