RE: Fail safe and glow plug igniter ??
For a glow plug igniter I use a 1.5 volt hobby battery and the a glow plug igniter that has two wires coming off then I just hook it to the battery and It will cost you like 10 bux total. And will last you a few months. A good failsafe is the venom failsafe or ofna failsafe. Links:

go to your lhs and make sure you ask for these:
6-cell stick battery pack (any)
12 battery (aa)
glow ignightor (any)
good fuel, made by either traxxas, hpi, trinity,
fuel bottle
4 way wrench
this is all u need, failsafe isnt really nesessary at all, but if u need to waist cash then do so.
If your gonna spend money, then get a ribbed pipe, its around 40 dollars, its an awsome pipe.

I would say a failsafe is worth the money by a long way. I would much rather spend a few quid on a failsafe, than a few hundred repairing/replacing/compensating, if you get a runaway....

I'm sure he already has the stick pack, but what is it for on a Savage? He'd want a 5 cell hump for the RX As for the 12 AAs, he likely won't need those either, I'm sure he has plenty floating around for his other R/Cs, and probably rechargables.
As for the Failsafe, while you are right that it's not a necessary item to run, for $25 there really isn't a reason not to use one. Have your $450 truck run away at WOT into a building or a tree or something because your receiver pack died on you after running all day and you'll be wasting more cash than that failsafe would cost you to replace all the parts that broke on your truck because you were too cheap to buy something that would've stopped your truck well before your battery got that low. Hasn't happened to me and with a failsafe my truck will hit the brakes when the battery gets low preventing that from happening. Seems like well spent moeny to me.
