just switched to 30% nitro....
i finally finished my 20% that i got to break in the engine and switched to 30% man did it make a difference... like turning on a switch, and unleashing hidden power. unfortunatly that power went to my cb and stopped...
the mesh was set by my lhs using the paper method and worked fine untill now. but during the run i noticed oil aroundthe back of the engine and rear shock tower. i ran it with out the top to see if i could find where it was coming from but it came to no avail.
as u can see int the pics my cb is still in the truck...(just in little pieces)[]
any ways if u have any comments or tips i will try just about any thing right about now, im getting sick of not being able to just go drive...
THNX

RE: just switched to 30% nitro....
It looks like your problem is the fact that that is not A hardened steel CB. The Robinson Hardened Spur needs to be run with it's bell. I have both of Robinsons' Spurs sitting in my tool box, since I don't use them any more.
With proper mesh the plastic spurs won't strip, and they are lighter, and offer more flexibility in gearing. I've run 2 Gallons of 30% through a Collari .30 with the same plastic HPI spur with no problems.

Was that a Robinson Racing hardened bell against that spur, or was it an HPI bell? That silver 'dust' that must have been piling up for the last few tanks was a good indication that the mesh was getting loose and the CB was wearing down. This happens with a hardened spur, even with a hardened bell eventually they wear down.
If you want to keep that spur get yourself some hardened bells by OFNA. The ones that fit the LX will work. If you stay RR you can only get a 14 or 16 (or is it 13 or 16?) but OFNA makes the whole range. You will also need the 5 dollar OFNA shim kit to ge tthe bell setup in the right spot.

Well, even though I have it too that doesn't mean it is normal. I am totally new and come close to damaging my engine eveytime I try to tune it.

once you learn how to set your mesh, you will realize that the rr hardened steel spur is a waste of power. the stock spur gear is plenty strong for any engine you can bolt onto the savage. your steel spur is much heavier than the stock one, which is robbing you of power. by going back to stock you will se a much bigger power gain than you did from the 3o% fuel. theres my .02

also for anyone else that has the burt crude on manifold... i found that the actual grommet on the exhaust of the engine was not the same size as the manifold.. so i didnt have a sealed exhaust...
i fixed this by "shimming" it with some F4 tape under the grommet bringing it to fit snugly..

Something I'm starting to notice about my Plastic Spur with the Collari, is that it's melting just on the inside of the slipper pad.
I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this?[&:]

to me that would indicate that it's a bit too loose and slipping too much. Just a guess however and i'm sure you'll tell me i'm wrong.

I burned up a spur gear on mine in the same way, the slipper was entirely to loose and melted the spur gear!!
The more that slips the more heat it generates!![:@]
